ATA Stormtrooper helmet, ESB

Heres a ATA helmet Im building. Im aiming for the ESB trooper shooting at Luke when Leisa shouts "Its a trap" on Cloud City. The helmet has really high brow, and I love that look!:love

I decided to base the assembly after the "Stop that ship" helmet as there are so many great reference photos, and to me the look seems close to the "Its a trap" helmet.

I first used screws to see how it worked, and finally used rivets.

Hope you like it!

Wait a minute... I just saw a helmet thread in the Prop section. If I posted wrong, feel free to move this.

Yeah I love the high brow too.

I painted the bucket yesterday. I went with this VW color that is off white, kinda milky looking. I did this in an attempt to make the helmet look aged. I went with dust and runnings and Im happy with that. (I havent removed the spots i prepaired where I want the paint to chip yet.)

However Im not sure if the look is too off white and perhaps Ill put on a layer with a more bright white. What do you think? Does this off white give it a aged prop look, or does it look weird and I ought to go with a brighter white? :confused

I 've never heard of the ATA helmet. Where does it come from and what are it's origins? Looks pretty nice by the way.

It is recast from CAP, who admittedly recast before him. :thumbsdown

They do look more yellow and I also say thats because of aging. Ive seen some ROTJ ABS helmets and they looked very yellow. This is replicating a painted ESB helmet though, and paint should be less yellow.

Ive decided to give it a coat of a brighter white. I would never be happy with the color it has now.

Is the ATA styrene? Is it a good thickness?

Ya its HIPS.

I think its ok thickness, mine was thin in the left hovimic area, but I reinforced it with clear epoxy on the inside and now its fine. Ive read about that problem area on other helmets also.

I cant really compaire it for thickness as I havent built another ST helmet, but Ive seen construction vids, and to me they look the same.

I got the impression that the recast accusation might not be iron clad. What is HIPS? Is the S for styrene? Can styrene be polished or is painting crucial?
