For the first time since 1976, original Artoo Detoo ANH head rotation bearing systems are back. This is the REV A version to the original Peteric hand drawn blueprints. REV A has the first revision threaded studs, nuts, and washers for mounting Artoo's head.

The outer races are machined from a solid piece of aluminum, the inner bearings are made from nylon, and the inner race brackets are made from stamped 5052 aluminum. All dimensions adhere to the open source OpenR2 specification.

Detailed information is available at AstroDroid '76 (Peteric) Head Bearing System - Rev A

REV B and REV C will be completed in mid November.
REV B and REV C have stainless steel machinist locator pins replacing the threaded studs, nuts, and washers.
REV C has an outer race with weight relief holes.

The aluminum brackets arrived earlier this week. The looks pretty good. They are sheet metal parts stamped from 5052 aluminum.
This photo shows 5 sets of 3. Once set is completed assemblted with stud, nuts, and nylon bearning.

Al three versions of the bearing system interfaces to the dome with a flange that is welded into the bottom of the dome. On the Kenny Baker units it looks like the flange is a single ring. On the Remote Control units it looks the the ring is made up from three separate flanges that are tacked together with spot welds.

The Rev A and Rev B head bearing looks like it have grommets in the dome flange pin holes that seem to have disappeared or fallen off by REV C

Jess/Steve,

Can you update these pictures with the REV A versions that have the threaded stud and nut? This is showing the REV B version with the stainless steel pin but this is the REV A thread.

Thanks!

Also there is a later screen grab of the dome flange for the RC unit has the breaks between each of the three pieces at about the 15 degree mark.
