Art Asylum / Diamond Select TOS Phaser build with metal parts.

Please forgive my posting on a somewhat old thread but this thread ended rather abrupt im hoping my fellow lovers of the AA Star Trek tos phasers can tell me the newest and latest upgrades being done on them. Always thankful :)

Well I guess il ad what I have done to mine. I have 4 so far. One is a modded one by Tony, aka federation phaser. for now the only metal upgrade on it is the nozzle. It has the green laser and blue LED. He does a terrific job as you all know. As for my work I put a green 532nm laser that I estimate at ~80mw that I can probably crank up to ~100mw. Im using 2 AAA in the handle and the button tops in the P1. another build is a 5mw red that I put its own button top batterys in the handle and the P1 again keeping it own button batterys. Im looking for ideas on how they are being modded for more power in either a 445nm blue or again another 532nm greenie. I know Safety Man has some awesome builds but he is way ahead of me as far experience! SafetyMan are you out there??:)

GSS mostly metal parts are being added to the AA phasers and painting. The last one I worked on I painted to look like the black & white phaser.
I did finish it up with a few short cuts.:) The only thing new is I made the 2 domes light up blue on the p1 to give it a little color.:cool

spacerone that is a beauty, love the double dome upgrade and blue LED,s Before signing up here I scoured this thread and you helped me a great deal with your pics on proper breakdown of these AA phasers so I had an advanced clue to what I was getting into.:) Love your attention to details as you upgrade these to look like the originals. Im glad you posted in and have a chance to tell you.:) I got online for the first time mabey a year ago and saw this AA phaser and it just took over me and brought me back to my childhood. So im on a laser mod run for now but eventually im planning on a complete metal upgrade on probably the one I had made by Tony at fed. phaser. Again thx spacerone

Sorry for necroposting, but does anyone have suggestions on improving the volume on the stock phaser? Is there a more powerful speaker that could replace the stock one? Would other components require upgrading to accomodate a new speaker?

I found top notch button cells like Energizers help plus making sure whatever battery's are used are at full power.
and forgive me to all the true copy prop guy's:eek iv'e drilled a few tiny holes in a circle series on the top silver "asperator" in one of mine which helped. Can't noticed them much because of the cross hatches. Also is the wheel opening it up enough, which you could also maby cutout a little extra from acrylic flap.
Hopefully, someone with electronic experience could chime in with doing some circuit board work,
On the "Rubies" phaser I found out using 1 extra battery for a total of 4.5V made a difference over the factory 3V but thats a whole different setup and I would hate to ruin a much much nicer "Diamond Select":facepalm

Sorry to bump an old thread but I thought it'd make more sense than making a new one.
I've been working on my AA/DST phaser project on and off for years now, but my biggest struggle is the electronics, so I'd like to ask for some help please.

  1. How can I add a power LED into Phaser 1 that is only on when the dial is set to anything other than off (I don't want it to blink so I want to avoid soldering it to LED2)? Similarly, is it possible to make the main Phaser 1 LED light up solid (instead of blinking) without modifying the IC's programming?
  2. I'd also like to use the dial as a power switch, since it doesn't actually disable power to the IC when it's in the off position. Is there a way to do this?
  3. Finally, I have no idea how to disable Phaser 1's LED when connected to Phaser 2 - there was a diagram posted earlier in this thread of a relay circuit but I don't understand exactly what it does and how it works. I'd love to make it a wireless connection (NFC, magnets - something like that) instead of using the metal pins so that I can make the phaser bodies look more accurate.

My electronics knowledge is really basic so I haven't been able to figure out any of this on my own so far. I have a multimeter if that helps but I'm not particularly good at using it besides measuring voltage and continuity.
