Ark of the Covenant 3D Solidworks model update

Hey not really interested in the replica (broke as heck) but I'm pretty proficient at SolidWorks (mechanical engineer). What do you need help with and what version are you using? I'm currently running 09/10.

EDIT: Wanted to clarify, I'm interested in the replica (this is one of my favorite props) just not interested building one at the moment.

I just started playing with the rails (started with a 2d profile)..but if you are good at solidworks I happily concede!

Post #58 is what I came up with so far. With that 2d cad file and some of the pictures of the rail I was going to TRY to make a 3d version. If you want to take over I'd be just fine with it. I may have bitten off more than I can chew! I'd be happy to email you the CAD file.

If you want to send me the CAD file or even an image file as a TIFF I can work with that. I'll see what I can do.

PM Sent.

Plus I whipped this up real quick. Used some of the dimensions eyeballed others, not perfect by any means but a good start.

Dewy that is looking great! Once that is done it shouldn't be hard to get some masters made up from aluminum. If there was enough interest a run of them in aluminum wouldn't be a bad idea. I know I've always worried about that area in particular being resin, just in case there was ever something that bumped it.

Ooooh....aluminum rails!!! :)

If you guys can get me the specs on one part of the railing I'll get some quotes. If I'm counting this right each ark will need 34 individual pieces and 4 corners. The more people who are in on it, the cheaper it will get obviously, but it will help that each person will be getting 38 pieces.

I think Kwally said he could do the CNC work at his place, so I wouldn't worry about getting quotes quite yet.

Also, I think the rails should be done in 4 pieces. I'm afraid it would look cobbled together if you had each individual figure or ring separate.

Gregg,

Are you talking about doing the cove moulding with the leaves and corner pieces as one piece???

Are you saying Kwally thinks he can do that???

Also what about the corner pieces?? Wouldn't they have to be done seperate???

I was just talking about the railing, and having just the four rails instead of a bunch of little pieces. Man we really need to keep this all to one thread.

I don't know what Kody's thoughts are exactly, but my thought on the cove molding is to do them as the four sides with corner leaves to cover the seams.

The fewer parts the better.

That is a good idea. If the leaves/tongues are machined on the cove molding, it would look a lot sharper. I could then machine the corner leaves separately to cover the seams...why didn't I think of that! :lol

Also, I have a metal CNC as well as wood/plastic one. The metal CNC is quite a bit smaller, but it would be great to get the lid "stuff" in aluminum. I'd have to see how that one works out.
