Are the values of STAR WARS props/helmets dropping?

I used to collect autographs but only if I actually met the person. Eventually I realized meeting them and getting a photo with them was better and sold the signatures. Given the state of the franchise it's interesting that autographs are in such high demand and retaining their value. Ebay is full of counterfeits.

I can’t say I collect autographs either.. if I get to meet the person I do, but I’m not one for hunting down autographs

I can’t believe what people are paying for some of them though..

Autographs are a strange sort of hero-worship, when you honestly think about it.

Outside of the signatures on historical documents, coveting a napkin signed by Biff is objectively fairly strange.

If you're really fastidious about details, especially about a batch of the steel mausers he made, the issues were brought up in this thread here. I don't know if it's been resolved but if they're still being sold with these issues, 'buyer beware' if you're the sort.
Thanks for this. I had no idea. I think I bought when they priginally came out.

Even Disney themeparks are feeling it now, all that themepark exclusive merch....

Well, folks discretionary income is dwindled considerably. People won't buy as much merch when they gotta struggle with putting food on the table. :(

I assume autographs started off as evidence that you met the person in real life. But it drifted into something else. It's sort of an implied 'stamp of approval' when the item is a prop.

I never understood how some fans are willing to annoy the celeb just to get an autograph. That seems to contradict the whole point of it. Why bother meeting your favorite celeb if they end up resenting you for it?

I suppose it makes sense to people who collect autographs on stuff to re-sell it. But that's another game that doesn't interest me.

I think if I ever ran into a celebrity I would maybe just say "Hey I'm a big fan." and that's about it. I don't think they owe anyone an autograph. I know I HATE it when I run into people and they try to sit there and talk for a half hour in the middle of a store, so I figure it's the same for them.

Getting an autograph at a convention is a different animal. You're not annoying them because they're paid to be there by the convention runners and you're paying the actor for their signature.

I wouldn't ask for an autograph if I saw them out on the street. We live in an area where lots of celebrities either live or work, but residents here just let them be. We've seen Paul Rudd and his family three times in the last few weeks. It's kind of cool to see an actor you like, but at the end of the day, they're just people. They're not gods.

I like autographs :)

I'd agree everything is dropping across rhe board. Even autograph prices are dropping slightly and collectors are becoming priced out of the market because of what celebs charge to sign now. I need Ford on this poster but I'm not paying £1500 for it. I'd pay £500 at a push. The thing is that all these signings are jumped on by impatient collectors. I've seen various autographs through private signings going for less than half their original cost. Portman was charging around £1000 then she releases a book which was released as a signed edition for £25, I know which I have in my collection. It's still her signature for a fraction of the cost.

Vintage toys and collectables a dropping in price too. It was never going to stay at the prices realised over the past few years.

3d printing has also made the prop genre more accessible for those who work on a budget, which I think is a great thing. Some like to collect exact replicas or found item replicas but the fact that someone can have a hilt on their wall for as little as £15 is great for new and younger collectors.
