APU Mecha

I'm lurking... All the parts looks so rough right now, but they also look amazingly detailed.
The painting and weathering will make it pop even more. I like your technique:thumbsup

cheers. absolutely. all the parts are ridiculously rough. and no amount of excuses can save a bad build. but i must admit my talents are still nowhere close to good. i lack tools and i suffer from chronic impatience :lol can't wait to see the full product and i marvel at the time and care some put in their work here. really lots to learn. thanks for watching :thumbsup

What an ambitious project! Looks really good so far! Press forward!

thank you good sir :rolleyes i hope this thread pleases you and you will stop by more often. comments are of course more than welcome.

In this case the parts being rough should be considered a good thing! It gives this build personality and if you come up with a back story filled with peril and battles the "scars" of said battles will make this model stand out.

haha absolutely! then all the gross mistakes and bad finishes can be attributed to battle scars, like it was the plan all along :lol

sorry, not much of an update this time.
pseudo exhaust tubes (i think...)

it really does look awesome, as said roughness is a bonus for the matrix universe.
everything looks kinda rough (the Nebuchadnezzar really should get those loose wires tucked away somewhere)

UPDATE!

Ammo Boxes :)

and i have no idea what these do...

IMGP5896_zps99f633c4.jpg

i know what these do! these will ultimately hold the arm assembly and rotate and pivot in ways considered generally awesome. gotta make them strong!
IMGP5897_zps8887e246.jpg

a picture with the ammo boxes in place.

more arm actuating, pivot-y things!

moving and pivoting!
IMGP5903_zpsece714c6.jpg

and this is where i am now. starting work on the shoulder/arms. very very work intensive area. lots and lots of pistons, round thing pivot-y bits etc.

more later. thanks for stopping by!

This is amazing!
Paper model? Well it's a very challenging build but so far you are doing very very good! No matter what material you choose, this model has a taste. Thanks for sharing this!:thumbsup

katsu

drool, my brain and eyes hurt from putting my face so close to my monitor, loving this

ahaha you are too kind. sometimes i felt i have bitten off more than i can chew, never attempted anything this detailed before, still much to do. and i wish i had half the talent i see on this forum especially this guy below.

katsu

ok now i can die happy. a compliment from katsu-sensei! thank you very much :) i hope it will be as good as i think it will be. the original model was in paper but as i stated earlier, i found this material which is essentially PVC foam board and is quite easy to work with and thus i am redoing the whole thing with that. and some paper, some tooth picks, card paper and whatever else i can find in my house. thank you for looking!

Excellent build & attention to detail! The articulated assemblies are impressive! I noticed some of your pieces have rough cuts, it might be from a worn-out blade. It helps to check for the condition of the blade now & then during a build.

Keep that build going! :thumbsup

thanks man, the problem is not in the blades but my quality of finish. i suffer from chronic impatience you see. it is one of my failings :D actually when i am done i will have to disassemble the whole thing, putty, sand and primer so all that will be taken care off. at least that's the plan. Also i must say, i went through some of your stuff, my god man, detailing at that level is insane! i salute you. thanks for stopping by!

gagsterman, you humble me. such words from a master craftsman really does make a man's day. you and katsu-san are like my sensei's. i have much to learn and your continued patronage is invaluable. thanks :cheers

onwards. i have a new squeeze. my first actually, may we see much action together. muahahahaha
IMGP5905_zps6588bd5d.jpg

i guess this will be called the shoulder assembly? do mechs have shoulders? anyway. i used some scrap card i had lying around to give a bit of raised detailing on the shoulders and hence the printed coloured bits on the, erm, shoulders.

Thank you Katsu-san, as always much appreciated :). By the way, is your build on hold? Haven't seen an update in a while...

Big update, got a lot done this time around.

some more actuators, lots more this time actually. The excess has to be trimmed to fit of course...

tiny tiny little hinge things. many are made from the foam board and more from card stock x4 to make it thick and strong.
IMGP5935_zpsc7eec336.jpg

cut out:
IMGP5936_zps38496538.jpg

The one's cut from foam were edged with a bit of metal sheeting because they were very flimsy and prone to splitting when i tried to make a hole in them.
IMGP5940_zpsc6f39275.jpg

a new part, this holds the arms to the shoulders and will allow for rotation.
