Apollo A7L spacesuit replicas

So as not to hijack the other Apollo suit thread, I thought I would post some of Global's suit replica work here.

These images are of "B/C" grade Apollo suits we did for Unilever for their LYNX / AXE body spray promotion a few years ago. (We offer 3 different detail levels A, B, C grade. "A" grade is the highest detail (Nearly indistinguishable from the real suit, although no ability to hold pressure) to C grade, lowest detail(Typically "walk around" suits for an promotional use)

Originally the order was for 300 suits, but this fell to 50, then eventually went up to 80 suits. For 80 suits instead of 300, the client thought the price each, would be the same....So in order to close the gap in cost, we leased the suits to them (so if you find one, please send it back ;) )

Here is a promo shot they did with the XCOR Lynx spaceplane. Three funny things about this photo / promotion the client didn't know:
1- The guy who ordered these suits, didn't know Unilever was doing the promotion as a tie in for their "Win a trip to space" using the Lynx spaceplane, he thought it was Virgin Galactic!
2- We built to LYNX mock up you see in this picture
3- I was building the real (as in: functional, go to space) suit for XCOR to use on the Lynx and ultimately the winner of the contest.

In order to complete this at the level of detail the client wanted, at a very low price and in 6 weeks, we had to come up with some novel solutions.
We designed special collapsible PLSS (Backpack) since these were shipping all over the world and this shipping cost was huge.

That's our partial full scale LM replica we made for Ron Howards office in "Arrested Development".

The LEVVA shells are actually Shuttle EMU shells. We used these to simplify the whole helmet system, since we only needed the gold sun visor and an integrated fan system. The Shuttle EVA shells have a front piece, in addition the the back shell, these are thermo-formed at the same time, with 2 complete helmets formed on the machine at a time. The "AA' powered fan system is made of it's own thermo-formed sub-assembly and screwed in place.

To get the detail the client wanted but to keep the price down, the RCU (chest box) was silicone molded from a complete fabric covered unit and then the production ones where roto-cast as a nearly finished units.
