If you can spare the money and want more accuracy from the start, then AP is definitely a way to go, imo - as you'll probably end up upgrading to accurate armor later anyways, depending on how you plan to use it.

There are other accurate armors, but I'm not all that much into what material they are made of or what they cost.

I have an MR CE Lid and I was thinking about getting a set of the FX armor (no helmet) and using my MR to make a complete armor set. I think I could get that set for around $350. But if the AP set is significantly more accurate, I may save up my money for that.

Comments? Advice?

Love the AP kit. A little peice of advice if your going to get it as your first kit. Practice with trimming scrap ABS. My AP was my first kit, I purchased it last year and I am just now comfortable to trim it. I recommend this kit with every fiber of my being, AP is a VERY good guy, the best customer service I have ever expeirenced, a real top notch guy.
I got into this hobby kinda late (...well i havent got into as in made anything yet, but I love looking and seeing all the beautiful props you guy/gals make), so when I hear all the Vets talking about when people made this stuff for the love of the hobby, all i see is a certain ex-member selling a helmet for over $800 (not Gino, i personally believe that he has contributed so much to the hobby that he deserves the prices he charges, not to mention what he had to pay to offer everybody his products i.e the orginal props). I realized that AP is the type of person the Vets were talking about.

When anyone asks me about armor, I always tell them the same thing.
I've always said AP was the best option out there for people. It is a good balance of accuracy, durability, price, and trustworthyness (if that's a real word).

The AP body parts are sized smaller than the FX, so keep that in mind. Although for a inexpensive trooping outfit a set of FX armor with a CE lid would be a good option.

With that said, I love my AP kit....very thick pulls with little loss of detail. Feels like you could play football in this suit!

a.p armour does look really nice but fx is pretty good too, i m looking for an fx kit at the moment, anyone know where i can get one and the price etc, thanks.

The way I thought when looking to buy my first armor: While researching for 2 years, the cheapest FX armor I could find was around $500. Then if you look at the price tag of the AP kit it is only around $300 more than the FX (depending on where you buy). I know that $300 is ALOT, but think of it this way. Are you going to want to upgrade in the future? Is the inaccuracy of the FX armor going to bother you over time? If you buy the FX armor then a year to two later you wan to get a nice accurate one, then you are out the money you paid for the FX kit and the AP kit. I figured might as well save up the extra week and buy the AP kit.

I had no idea that folks were so actively responding to my question. My thanks to each of you for taking the time to provide me with the benefit of your experience.

I'm 6'1 and about 175 pounds - not a heavy build at all. Would I be right in concluding that the AP might fit better on a guy of my build? I've got kinda long legs though - i wear a 34 inch leg (inseam) in a pair of pants. Would the AP legs be long enough?

Well generally the taller the trooper the larger the black gaps are going to be between armour parts and the consensus of opinion is that the original actors would be about 5'10 +/- and their armour butted together niceley.

But if you space out the parts correctly to minimise the gap this armour will still look good on someone of your size :thumbsup

The fx parts are larger in width more than they are in height, if you get my meaning...

not to hijack this thread....but i'm 5'11" 200 lbs...is RT the way to go?????? i just got an FX TX kit, it's my first, i figure i'd start small, then when i go white, upgrade to better armor....i guess for my size does RT do it??????
