AP: Off World MFG Blade Runner Blaster

I just got off the phone with Desmon, the president of OWM and he is very excited about idea of us upgrading his blaster.

He has given me his blessing to have metal upgrade parts manufactured to replace some of the parts of his gun and he would like to share some information on how to tweak certain parts of the gun to make them perform better.

I thought it would be a good idea to consolidate all of the information into a single thread, that way there won't be a bunch of different threads all over the different forums.

For the most part my participation in this thread will be the discussion of machined aluminum parts replacement parts I plan to offer.

The first 3 parts I plan to make are:
  • Buttplate
  • Trigger Guard
  • Grip Frame
If you would like more information about this part of the project please see my Interest Thread posted in the Junkyard at http://www.therpf.com/index.php?showtopic=121465&hl=

I also encourage anyone that has information about improving the gun to post as well.

Tips on painting, mechanical adjustments, etc are welcome.

PLEASE DO NOT TURN THIS THREAD INTO A PRODUCT BASHING OPPORTUNITY.

If you have a legitimate problem I'm sure Desmon will be glad to help you.

REMOVING THE ORANGE PLUG

I noticed many people asking about removing the orange plug and I read the thread about the cork screw.

I don't have a cork screw so I improvised.

I use a coarse thread drywall screw and a pair of pliers to accomplish the same thing.

This is pretty self explanatory

DUMMY ROUND INFORMATION

Exoray has offered to make Dummy Rounds for this project, he is very knowledgeable about this subject but he does not have an Offworld Model so he needs our input to determine which type of round to offer.

Once we decide on what type of round we want he will be able to set a final price at which point he will start a sign up thread in the Junkyard.

Originally he asked if I wanted to distribute these to the group but I thought it would be best if he handled that end since these could be available very soon.

You've done it now. The gun is now lethal and can be loaded with real bullets. That orange plug was the only thing saving western civilisation.

Seriously, it may have been asked before, but is the upper receiver metal? If so has anyone removed the paint to see whether it can be made to match the Worldcon gun?

Yes, the upper receiver is metal.

If anyone has pictures of the Worldcon Gun, pleasepost them below.

IIRC, someone in the other thread already stripped the paint off of the receiver & stated that it looked pretty slick.

EDIT: Clickee.

So are these metal upgrade gonna be exact copy of the MIM parts or redesign to be more acurate?
[/b]

It would be nice if there where two options for the buttplate the accurate worldcon hero version and the original version.

Also I think the trigger guard should be the accurate Worldcon version with the convex shape.

I think an important part to be made in metal also would be the Bolt cap that goes into the back of the Steyr reciever. If many of us are going to strip the paint off of the reciever it would be good idea for the bolt to match.

I'm not going to totally rule out the idea of making improvements to the parts.

It may be possible as long as the overall shaped and mechanical fastening points are not changed.

However, I have ZERO reference on this blaster, so if you want to see improvements we will need to see pictures and we will have to have in depth discussions about the improvements.

I will be posting pictures of a complete breakdown of the blaster and rebuild with (how to) improvements to blaster in the next few days, so keep an eye on this thread. :love

Cool thread, looking forward to all the ideas. I've always liked the BR blaster but haven't analyzed it to any degree at all, so I'm eager to hear about any inaccuracies that can be improved.

Has anyone figured out what caliber shells will fit into the chambers? This would be another way to give the gun more weight

edited for horrible spelling

I am having troubles connecting to the junk yard thread but color me VERY interested in upgrading this gun... Especially if it can be done in a cost effective fashion. I'm not interested in dropping a grand on this to accuize it even it its a little at a time ;) however if for a modest amouont if I get a blaster that has a lot of the plastic on this replaced with metal - Lets go...

As for what I think needs replacing I'd add 4 parts to the list
The triggers
the cylinder cover
the Stylus thingy that mounts to the Cylinder cover
the Lever and slide (I don't know the gun term for it) that flips up and slides back

Exact copies of the existing parts in metal - or perhaps ones that have slighhtly tighter tolerances to make the "action" tighter with the cylinder flip out would be what I would be looking for.

-Arent the triggers metal? I thought they were.
-The bolt and lever most surely...especially the bolt end cap
anything on the Hero that was exposed metal should be made of metal in my opinion. The rest we can get away with
I am thinking about ways to make mine a working cap gun if I ever get it.

Currently I am waiting on CAD Files from Off World MFG.

Once I have them I will get quotes on the parts I plan to offer.

Who can I contact to get in touch with the creators of the Off World gun for my history and timeline? Because this gun is so new I kind off didn't think about including it at first, but I think it is significant as a new variation on the theme of this gun.

A metal barrel with the correct beveling at the tip would be nice also.

Has anyone figured out what caliber shells can be placed in the chambers?

Will having the CAD files make it easier and cheaper to reproduce the parts?

That is very generous of him BTW.

That is indeed awesome of him.

Metal barrel? Isn't it already? Tell us more about the incorrect bevel.
