Anyone used nail polish with a clearcoat as blood on a wooden prop?

I was watching the first season of Arrested Development last night and there was an episode where red nail polish was spilled in a car and mistaken for blood.

It gave me an idea... I am trying to put together a gore besmeared baseball bat for a Halloween thing, that will turn into a prop display once the holiday is over..

What do you all think?

I prefer to use 5 or 10 minute, 2-part epoxy, colored with acylic paint. You can make blobs, drips, smears, stains - whatever and they dry solid within hours (to the touch in 5-10 minutes). You don't have to worry about it flaking off or not drying completely.

I've used the eopxy for drool and slime because once it start to get tacky, you can make it stringy. I've been working on a project (for way too long) that uses colored epoxy as blood dripping off of something. Maybe I'll finish it one of these damn days and post it up :lol.

When I was but a mere lad, I would use my mothers red nailpolish for blood on Smurfs I would impail with toothpicks... :angry

I've used tons of things for fake blood (for both wet and dry look). Nail polish is ok for some things, but there's no thickness to it. The epoxy thing works well. Regular paint is good for a more dried/aged look.

Fantastic everyone! thanks for all your advice, it's all great.

I am going for a fresh and chunky look, so the 5 minute epoxy method seems best.

I think the 5-min epoxy loses most of it's transparancy when mixed with paint. On a side note, it also yellows over time. At least the stuff I used. :)

I actually used some clear polish on my Shaun of the Dead cricket bat last week, so it does work on wood. I had just used paint for the blood so I could easily control it and make it as thick or thin as I liked. There were sections that I wanted to look newer, so kept a brighter red. They ended up drying and blending in too much for me so I dabbed some nail polish on to make them stand out and forever look like a fresh splatter. Cheap fix and saved me a trip to the store.

Yeah, either way, here is the link to the post with pictures of my finished bat: http://www.therpf.com/f9/donny-donowitzs-bat-68801/#post962349

And here is the link to the "blood" I used: Perma-Blood - The haunt industry's BEST permanent blood paint.
