Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone here has used the 10 to 1 silicone from J.Greer.

I usually use GI 1000 but the Greer rubber is much less for 5 gallons.

In the tech data it looks much thinner than anything I've used from Silicone Inc.

Any info is helpful. Good or bad.

Thanks!

Hi clayslinger...I've used his silicone. Both standard and thixotropic catalyst. Mixing took a bit to figure out...but I got 10 to 1 mixing cups and took care of the hassle...call me lazy. Very good outfit to deal with. I've used several of there products and have never had a moments problem in quality or in dealing with J. Greer.

Hope this helps.:thumbsup

The 10:1 is just your average standard grade silicone, not bad and not top of the line, it works as well as most other basic grade silicones...

The only complaint I have about it is the smell, it has a "grape" like scent and if you make a big mold it will literally stink up your whole house/shop... And I'm not talking about just when making it, the smell last for months and months even after it's cured...

But, it's only a small complaint as it's not a bad smell overall just very noticeable...

And last but not least he is a good guy to deal with...

I highly recommend J Greer. Quality products and a stand up guy. About the grape smell, it's never lasted more than a day for me, even with large molds and the smell is somewhat pleasant IMO.

Really? I have a multi-gallon poured mold that is months old that still emits a noticeable smell... It was all digital scaled and mixed with an electric mixer so I know it's not a mixing or proportion issue... I also have several other smaller molds that are pretty old and the smell isn't that noticeable but if you stick your nose close you can still smell it...

And yeah the smell isn't bad almost pleasent, but it's there and something I'm not used to...

I Highly recommend John's Silicon, Get the more expensive two-part purple, it is incredible stuff Im using on a project right now...

I use his 1 to 10 28 shore silicone, i get it in the 5 gallon bucket with the purple catalyst. I like the smell, much better then the other orders of materials i use. Only complaint is that you have to reorder it when you are out ( pricey stuff that silicone)

I've been using www.jgreer.com for all of my silicone, urethane resin, and additive orders for about two years now and I've never had any problems. The 1:1 silicone is a bit on the flimsy side, but it also saves you a bit on cash if you're only doing a very short run.

In case you're looking for it, his pigments for casting resin are the most user-friendly I've found so far. On top of all of that, orders get shipped pretty quick. If you're on the fence about ordering from him, I'd recommend him for anything you need.
