For those of you old enough to remember one of the first talking teddy bears, Teddy Ruxpin, He also had a live action show that I just found on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhaTx-AGOYc&feature=related

I worked in a shop in van nuys that did the made the toy and the TV show props. I see many of the items that I molded and cast in these videos.

The company is now defunct, but But I wonder if any of the crew might be members here? Anyone here ever work on this show?

A great little toy - the animatronics were operated by instructions on the right track of a stereo tape, with the voice on the left. You could essentially remote control the thing by leaving blank tape spaces: five minutes, ten minutes of stillness, then /cut/ slow head turn.../cut/ two minutes of silence.../cut/ "YArrr.. I am DEVIL BEAR!!!"

Scared the crap out of my kid sister with that thing - she wouldn't sleep with it in the same room...

It was more of a toy for adults than children. Even though they tried to make it as child-proof as possible, eventually, a curious child would render it inoperable within 10 minutes.

Watching that video (all 5 of them) brought back a lot of memories. I see many of the items that I molded and cast. THere were 3 scales of everything, 1:1, 1:6, 1:12 for shooting. Those airplanes that you see the bad guys flying, they were all hand rotocast in the old days of brown urethane resin. I molded and cast all the armor that the bad guys are wearing. At the end, there is a treasure room. You can't tell what the treasure is from the video, but it started as one model coin that I molded and cast, gang molded, cast piles of coins, and lastly: Molded a pile of coins and cast rubber sheets of the piles. There were mountains of coins beneath the jewel strands.

of course i had to get one for my daughter, its still here somewhere.
was damn hard not to gut the little fellow for his innerds. :lol
john :cool

I have a Teddy, and Grubby in the closet at my mothers house.
I so wanted to take it apart but was talked out of it by my mother.

Weird, I don't remember the live action Teddy Ruxpin show, but I do remember the cartoon, watching it Saturday mornings.

I made molds for all the battery boxes and head mechanics for the prototypes for the entire toy line. Mother Goose and pals never made much of a market show, neither did Mickey and Friends. Mostly, I remember a LOT of overtime. In my younger days, I liked that.

Was it true, that the early ones would play and interact with any cassette? I remember hearing repeatedly back in the day, about people supposedly running vintage Richard Pryor through him!

"Saaaaaaay!!! Ya rubba brick throwin' mutha ****a!!! :lol:lol:lol

Same here.

I still have my old Ruxpin somewhere. It was actually my second; the first had to be returned because it was defective. I have to agree with the earlier poster that these guys weren't designed for the rigors of being handled by kids.

i remember the teddy ruxpin toys (from adverts) and the cartoon, but i remember it being a kids thing (guess i'm too old!)

My twin brother has one. I saw they recently updated the electronics and brought Teddy R back.

Ah, Teddy Ruxpin.
I have a true story.
When my son was three he kept seeing commercials for Teddy Ruxpin and he kept telling the wife and I that's ALL he wanted for Christmas. Those were our poor years. It was tough enough to pay rent and keep food on the table. We knew there was no way for us to pony up the 60.00 that we needed for the little guy. 5 days before Christmas some friends invited us to bingo night for their company. They knew we were strapped so they offered to pay our 10.00 entrance fee. Wouldn't you know it! I won 100.00! I paid back the friends, got the bear for my son (he's now almost 21!) and a good Christmas was had after all.

The End

Too old to have had one but I do remember them and all i can say is...

EVIL!

Had no desire to have that or "My Buddy" anywhere near me after watching Child's Play.
