Has anyone ever made this leia blaster?

It's the one from the original movie poster, similar to a han blaster, but a bit different. I thought it would make a cool custom project. Any thoughts, anyone have a good high res scan of the poster?

Cheers.

Personally, I've never seen that Blaster attempted. It's a cool idea, though.

What with the recent projects bringing the concept Vader and Stormie helmets to life, and now your idea of Leia's Blaster from the original SW poster, it seems as if "canon props that never were" is the new hot thing. :)

I found a decent picture of the gun, and made a quick line drawing of it. I used a little artistic license in drawing it, I used an E-11 handle, because it looks like it could fit in the shape of Leia's hand. Also I wasn't quite sure what the other side looked like so I just threw in some details that I liked. What do you guys (and gals) think?

Nice photo and nice rendition in the drawing.

I can see the practicality of using the E-11 handle. But in the painting, you can see the very bottom of the handle just below Leia's hand, and the bottom edge of the grip runs parallel to the barrel. It's not angled like an E-11 handle.

2 cents :)

Ooooh I'm liking this. I'd really love to make this costume, so I'd love to see the gun brought to life. defiantely keep us updated with progress. :D

I made one back in '77-8. I did what 7-11 Jedi did, making a scale drawing, turned the barrel out of wood on a lathe, cut the handgrip out of 3/4" stock, cut two handgrip 'covers' out of 1/8" stained them a deep walnut and put all the pieces together. I was quite proud of it, seeing how it came out quite accurate to the poster. At that point in time getting good reference material was quite the chore. From the poster, it's quite vauge whether or not there is a scope. I didn't think so, thus I didn't add one to my replica.

I hope this gets re-done and offered to the RPF as I'd love to have one.

I kind of like the E-11 handle, it gives it a "Star Warsy" feel, I think. Kinda like the ponda baba blaster, or something similar, so I think I'll leave it.

But I've been thinking about the scope, and decided to try it without the scope and just made the end bulb the end of the barrel, almost like a counterweight in this rendition. Which one do you folks like better?

Hi Mike,
Your line drawing got me inspired to see if I could make a blueprint. Hope you don't mind if I completely redid your work...

I took the painting and skewed it so that the blaster had nice right angles. Then I laid the line drawing on top and started to basically redraw the whole thing. The handle was the hardest. I took an angle from the trigger to the base of the handle to get that angle. I made it kind of in the style of a "Ray Gun."

Take a look and let me know what you think. ;)

Hey, that's looking good. I like the detail you added to it. I think I might have to go the hardware store and pick up some parts and see what I can't start throwing together...

Cheers.

Ok, I revised the blaster.

After finding a different photo some things kind of jumped out at me. Also, I was going for an even more of a "ray gun" look. I embellished the front fin. It may just be that part is not symetrical. Oh well, it kinda looks neat. This is fun :)

Anyone up to scanning their poster to get some fine detail?

There's a lot of cool concept guns that could be done in the "Art of..." books. A couple look like you could use Sten gun parts for them.
