Anyone ever build an aluminum can airplane?

I passed this cart near the SD St Patrick's Day Parade where this guy was selling airplanes made out of pop and beer cans - they looked awesome! Unfortunately, I was in my car and couldn't stop to look closer, or inquire after prices.

Since returning home, I've looked into this further and really admire the handiwork that goes into them. I have identified two websites that sell plans and templates that look really good, and am very tempted to buy the F/A-18 templates since I can't find any free sources out there.

Just wondering if any of us are into this at all? Would love to hear from you. :)

It's been awhile since I've seen these, but they were the bi-plane style. The ones I think are impressive are the VW bugs! I haven't scene any of the jets, those would be pretty cool. I imagine they just transfer the paper craft templates, over the pop cans, or they are really that skilled!

Well, I've done it. I've ordered the plans for an F/A-18 Hornet. :)

This plane is near and dear to my heart, as I am from Seattle and they *always* perform at our Seafair celebrations! :)

If anyone happens to drink copious amounts of energy drinks, please contact me. I would absolutely love to take the empties off your hands. I'll pay postage if necessary.

There was a guy on Maui who had his own shop in an outdoor mall dedicated solely to aluminum can aircraft. (http://www.acaircraft.com/history.htm) More of a museum than anything else. Super cool to watch him make them. When my son was a five or six, he could sit and watch for hours if I let him. Completely mesmerized by the guy.

Hope you show us your progress Josh.
