Anyone else noticed Disney "cross-referencing" franchises

... more frequently in their programming lately?

e.g.

Marvel Agents of SHIELD - a couple of weeks ago someone was wearing a STAR WARS T-shirt.
Once Upon a Time - tonight someone made reference to a Wolverine comic.
The Avengers 2 teaser features the Pinocchio song.

Disney playfully showing off their ownership of these franchises?

ABC does this a lot with Nashville. In one single episode they had Derek Hough(Dancing with the Stars) guest starring (for a few episodes) and they mention booking one of the characters on DwtS. Also they have Good Morning America hosts talking about characters being nominated the CMAs(which are on ABC next week), again, all of this in one episode. They are pretty shameless.

I doubt if the Avengers 2 teaser will provoke new interest in Pinocchio.
I think Disney just did it for fun.

I agree. I have seen people in other threads make conspiratorial comments about the Pinocchio song. Personally, I didn't mind it. I feel that it fits in with what we know about the movie so far.

The art department on those shows can be happy that they are able to do this. It´s a nightmare today to use actual movie posters or items on any kind of show unless the rights issues are cleared. I remember seeing an episode of Mork and Mindy and seeing a Star Wars poster hanging in Morks room. And I thought "ah, simpler times ..."

They do it all the time. And have done it for years. If there's a Buzz Lightyear cameo in StarWars I'm going to be very upset.

Okay, no Buzz, but what if a few of these guys walk through frame or are sitting in a cantina?

I don't think referring to pop culture is a new thing, the Pinocchio strings works due to the actual storyline of Avengers2 - I'm just guessing the use of the song just has lower licensing fees.

I will add one though - I got the Marvel Lego Superheroes game over the weekend and there's one point where Mr Fantastic grabs a falling Thing and Invisible woman and forms a parachute. When they land he says "I saw that in a movie once" referring to the Incredibles. I actually lol'd

if you watch any ABC shows you'll see they name drop other Disney-owned franchises all the time. Genius cross-selling with subliminal messaging, but I pick up on that stuff fast.

I remember Once Upon a Time In Wonderland had a scene where the Red Queen blatantly mentioned using the Sarlaac as a method of punishing Alice.

OH! This talk of Wonderland reminded me of something. First season of Once Upon A Time, they showed Apollo bars a few times. Both shows share EPs so its more of a wink at themselves then other ABC/Disney properties.

Since season 1 of OUaT, Henry has been reading Marvel comics.

Not sure if it was intentional or accidental, but Wonderland's sorceress Amara could have been a nod to the Enchantress, Amora (who is a sometimes-ally of Loki).

I'm just waiting to see what we get in Kingdom Hearts 3. I'm not expecting levels, but there might be references or visual gags for Marvel or Star Wars.

Also a TRON lunch box is carried around by the kid. He is also seen playing Space Paranoids, Kevin Flynn's game from the films.
