My friend did most of it. The handle is just made out of 1.5 inch thick wood carved into shape with a band saw and then I used black sharpie to color the design onto it. This is back before I found the world of prop replication. The blade is made of three sheets of plexiglass. All three are cut to the same external shape, but the middle one is hollowed out. All three were glued together and then edges sanded smooth, then I poured in some sand and wood glued the blade into the handle. The glow was added in post.
Some day I'd like to sculpt a new one of these that looks really good. It would probably require the use of some clear resin though, and I've never even cast normal resin, much less the bubblicious stuff. I grew up in New Mexico and went back for vacation a couple years ago and got a bottle full from White Sands. If/when I get around to making an SA one, I'm filling it up with that.
