Any pointers on making a bubble tank?

I was watching the old I-Man series again, and man I really want to make a bubble tank to show off a Q gland.

I have the basic idea worked out, where I need an acrylic tube, some silicone sealant, and some kind of topper that looks all "science fiction-y", but I am kinda lost at the "making it bubble" part. At least "making it bubble and light up without leaking and burning my house down from the ensuing electrical fire".

I can take some screencaps later if you need them, but basically I am just looking for some general help on this. I only really have one shot (one big tube of plexi) so I don't want to screw it up on "testing theories" and, again, probably burning down my house.

Also was thinking of making one with a floating brain, like in those old sci fi movies from the 50's and 60's, or even Robocop 2. Same problem though, bubbling + lights + me = house on fire.

So, any tips , please share with the group :)

You could also glue your tube to a clear piece of acrylic and put the lights under the clear bottom. That way they would stay out of the water. Another way would be to get a second tube and make a double walled cylinder and do all the bubble effects in the space between the tubes. But I like TriCloudwalker's colored blower idea.

I am also looking to make this, only mine is for a mad scientist prop.About 10 years ago I received a gift which is close to what were looking for.It was a tall (about 4 feet ) about five inches round clear tube, with a light up base. You filled it with water and added fake fish and it bubbled. Thought it was stupid at the time :lol but would love to have it now.Anybody ever see something like this?

Holy crap I never thought to look for light up bubblers...

I am going to have to dig around a bit now :D

TurboMan - I remember the thing you are talking about. No idea where to find em now, but I do remember seeing em :)
