Any modelers in the WI, MN, Chicago area? Model Contest in Oshkosh, WI

Don't know if this is the place to post this or not - so mods can move it if they feel it necessary. Although the contest is aircraft heavy (it is Oshkosh and EAA after all), they do have a few sci-fi categories and I'm hearing there will be 'specials', awards that target a specific theme... I'll be there - hopefully I'll have this CC X-wing done and a few others by then.

I'd love to see your X-Wing, so I'll plan on being there. I live in Fond du Lac, just a short drive.

The EAA Museum has always had great model displays. They even have a Millennium Falcon (kit built) that ILM presented them in gratitude after Ben Burtt spent some time at one of the air shows recording sounds for The Empire Strikes Back.

Fond du Lac, just a short hop! I'll be working the show, so just look for the dorky guy with the R2 unit and the SS Wing, that'll be me.

Last I knew the MF was still there and on display. I know the museum director - I wonder if its worth the effort to ask him to allow me to photograph the model up close and personal?

J

Your R2 unit? That's funny, I was wondering if they'd let me display my 1:1 R2 as a "model!" Thought I knew all the astromech builders in the area...

Regarding the Falcon, it would be great to have nice pics. I believe this model has been discussed briefly here on the RPF, maybe a search would find something. Not production used, but does display ILM paint/weathering.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Marcus

Hey Marcus,

Its not a 1:1 R2, I'm currently working on a 1/6 R2. Focus has been the electronics, I'm designing a proximity sensor circuit. The circuit will send variable voltages based on the distance the target is from the sensor. What that means is - if you get too close the R2 unit he'll do the 'R2 Scream'.

I would say certainly, bring your 1:1 astromech, it'll be a showstopper!

I'm in Ixonia, halfway between Milwaukee and Madison just off I-94. We should grab a beer sometime!
