Antique Sword Case

A little sword case I made to hold some of my LoTR replicas. The case is 12"x38"x4" made out of red oak. Took about about a week to build, all in all materials were like $120 from my local hardware store and yes those are pre-fabed wood designs on the lid, im not that talented at carving wood, lol.

Thanks. I was going carve some elvish into the lid itself but was afraid that since the stain was so dark it wouldn't really stand out as much. I might add some brass chain supports on the inside for the lid for when its open so lid doesn't have to lay flat or lean on something.

Love the wood work. Just two things: the cross hatching work on the front hides the swords. Pity. And the inside.... if it were me I would have done the bottom in black leather with brass sword-holding fixtures so the swords not only look in their element, but really pop. The rug backing takes away from them I feel. IMO.

There actually is a black inlay made of anti-fatigue material underneath the carpet. Both that and the carpet are loose laid in the box so I could upgrade the bottom later, its just temporary. My original plan was to do leather and leather straps but I decide not to because I was also thinking of doing a custom made inlay to recess the swords into with padding underneath and a forest green silk fabric on top. So once I have a couple more swords in there I may do that, didn't want to redo that inlay ever time I got a new sword. I would have put glass in the case but I don't have a table saw or router to cut a 1/8" to 3/8" groove in a 3/4" thick piece of plywood, unfortunately.

From one wood worker to another... Dont forget those good old Hand tools like a HandPlane, Hammer, and Chissle. Allot of work yes. But sometimes that is the most rewarding.

Having said that this looks fantastic. Great work and I think your right some gold or brass chains on either side would really add to the look of it when open.
