Anti Matter Canister - FINISHED - NEW PICS

Hi All,
With the release of Angels & Demons on Bluray/DVD, I've decided to pick back up on making the anti matter canister.

I analyzed the bluray and made a rough blueprint/specs sheet for it in my dorm room. I believe I've gotten the scale/dimensions correctly now, and I'm beginning to do some research as to the materials needed.

Now, I have NO casting/sculpting experience so as much as I would like to go that route for accuracy, I'm afraid it's not really an option for me, so it looks like I'm going to piece it together from stuff I can buy. I purchased a clear acrylic cylinder from here:
http://freckleface.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/product623.html

so while I'm awaiting that to arrive in the mail, I've been thinking about what to do for the base and other various parts of it. Does anyone have any ideas?

Here are a bunch of screen caps for reference. Let me know if you have any advice/ideas

Re: Anti Matter Canister Project

Ok, so a small bit of an update from my end, sorry for crappy cell pics, it's all I had available. While there's still quite a bit of work to do, I feel like I made a decent leap in progress on this thing within the last week. Let me know what you guys think.

Re: Anti Matter Canister Project

It's a plastic (acrylic/Plexiglas) tube from the link I had in my first post. It comes in a 30 inch section so it had to be cut and sanded. I have leftovers if anyone is interested in making their own. I'll continue to post pics as I go, if anyone has any other questions, feel free, I'd be glad to share.

Fantastic! :thumbsup I was just telling my buddies I wanted to see this thing built. Cant wait to see how it comes along!

Thanks for the kind words! I'm surprised we haven't seen more of these being built around here, although I'm not sure if the movie is as popular as I thought it would be. I'm sure it's obvious, but I'm not going for 100% accuracy here, just so long as I can get close enough for my taste. I'm hoping to head over to home depot tomorrow to pick up some more supplies. if I could finish this thing within the next couple weeks I'd be happy. Being on winter break from college I should have plenty of time to make that happen. Perhaps I could even make it light up if I had the ambition/time. Finding a suitable clear cylinder for the project proved to be the most difficult task, so now that that's done I feel like it's really cruising along.

I couldn't finish the movie. Tom Hanks just gets on my nerves now.

My next mission is to buy some paint, glue, wires, and a few other items to finish this thing up

Re: Anti Matter Canister Project

Nice work, I waited until it came out on DVD and then rented it, I like some of the paper props but think your doing a bang up job on the canister.

Thanks, if you're interested in the paper props the member Stefan Jones did a fantastic job on many of the props and is soon doing a small run of them if you want to contact him. The interest list filled up for the current run, but you could maybe message him if you were interested.
Here's the thread for that:

Re: Anti Matter Canister Project

Huge update:
I'm very close to finishing this thing up now. I have the pieces all together, now it's all just finishing and touch up, then I will add the Plexiglas cylinder.

Re: Anti Matter Canister Project

I'm finally done with this project, and while it is a relief, I'm fairly happy with how it came out. Please let me know what you think, and if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. Hopefully my brother remembers to bring me our nice canon powershot so I can take some decent pics for you, but for now here's more cell phone pics :unsure

p.s., if anyone has any interest in some of the clear acrylic tubing I have left over, I have a 6.5 inch piece (exactly the size I used, shows some wear), a 6 inch piece ( slightly smaller than what I used, but can be used for something else or a slightly smaller version of the canister), and finally an 11 inch length of leftover that I didn't bother cutting. If you're interested, shoot me a PM.

Re: Anti Matter Canister Project

Here's some better pics of this thing with my other Robert Langdon props, including my new Angels and Demons paper props from our own Stefan Jones. Thanks again for these great props Stefan!
