Anovos Stormtrooper.... thoughts?

Watched an interview with Heath at Anovos from back in December. So, liiiiiiiiiittle nervous about the kit now - he is talking about the plastic Anovos has gone with for armor, how awesome it is, how durable and flexible....and how it is totally impossible to sand it or glue anything to it....:wacko

Interesting, I've not seen that interview. However, having helped build one of Anovos' TFA Suits I found that the plastic was regular ABS and no trouble to cut, sand, and glue so I wouldn't be worried at all.

Thanks - I was guessing they wouldnèt have released a kit that was impossible to assemble, but like I said, the interview (it's a 45 minute interview I found on a youtube channel called Comlink - some interesting stuff about their approach to designing the armor, vis a vis costume vs practical wear-ability vs logical in-universe ideas about the parts under the armor you DON'T see ) made me pause a second there :)

I must pay a lot for shipping, to much in my opinion, and also the tax later, so the armor will be not so cheap at the end

Never heard of a plastic that can't be sanded or glued in some way.

You're clearly not one of the people doing a HS MF mod :lol Anyways, check out the interview - it's worth it just for hearing their approach, some cool stuff. Towards the end Heath talks about the plastic they were showing off at LAST celebration (I think clone troops), and how you can basically bed the stuff in half without it cracking, but that it was painful to work with for those reasons.

I'm torn on this one. I want to see it before I invest in it.

$350 for TK armor is extremely cheap. If you don't jump in now then you will be paying quite a bit more later. Nobody will have their kits to display until Winter and by that time the price isn't going to be as attractive.

I ended up jumping on a kit as well, and I also threw in a black officers cap, because it was essentially shipped free with the kit. I haven't mentioned anything to my girlfriend yet...

As someone who is yet to dive into costuming but desperately wants the most accurate armour possible how inaccurate is this suit? I hear people saying it's not accurate but in what ways? If money isn't an object is there a clear winner for accuracy out there?

I donèt think many people are saying it is inaccurate - mostly because it sounds like there is only one prototype in existence at the moment. From what I've learned from people here, including Got Maul, the suit was laser-scanned from an original ANH suit, 3D printed, some clean up done to remove some of the really wonky bits of the original sculpt and mistakes in trimming the original pieces, while preserving the best known oddities (the left eye of the bucket, the mismatched number of divets on the forearms for example), and then molds taken from those cleaned up prints. In short, as far as I can tell, not the same as directly casting an unmolested original suit, but the next best thing. My understanding is that this is not screen-accurate, but rather screen-what-you-remember.

Hi guys. John here. I know Got Maul will jump in here too but I did want to address one thing right now:

The kit (and finished ensemble) are ABS and can indeed be sanded, bonded, glued, and painted.
What Heath was alluding to in that interview was PU which we are considering in the future for specific, finished costume pieces.

If you'd like to know more about the TK including the thickness of the ABS used (.090") and other info please check out this FAQ: http://www.anovos.com/pages/classic-stormtrooper-faqs

OK, cool.

I now return you to your ANOVOS TK discussion already in progress, and your host; Got Maul.

Dammit now I've bought one :)
Just thinking though, with it being shipped in three boxes will I get stung thrice for customs charges to UK ?

Why would it come in three boxes, does it state that somewhere? Customs would work out at 20pc $70 and handling fee.

How many boxes will the kit ship in? We are finalizing the shipment layout for the kit, however we anticipate this to ship in no fewer than three (3) boxes. So, that means one (1) box for the helmet by itself, one (1) box for the armor, and one (1) box for the soft parts (arming suit, holster, neck seal, and belt).

Take pity on your poor delivery guy. Could you image how large the box would be if it were all packaged together?
