ANOVOS issues (ANOVOS ONLY discussion)

We will see. I reached out almost immediately, but I'm not going to hold my breath. The other day when I was on their site, it was randomly instock for $725. I purchased it, later that night they sent out an email saying "limited instock" and then jacked up the price to $800 that same day and shortly after it was sold out. Super shady.

Maybe it was limited returns "in stock" yikes...

...now I'm wondering if this was previously sold to someone else, then returned, to be resold (at a cheaper price).

I would not put this past them. How this company remains around with these practices is beyond me

Did they ever make the Star Lord jackets they took pre-orders on some time ago?
I've never seen one in the wild or for sale on e-Bay.

Cheers
Steven

The Marvel jackets are one of the first ones they had major problems with, as I recall, around the time they started to have problems with the factory in China. Initially, the Star Lord jacket was going to be cotton with pleather details, but after the relationship with the manufacturer crashed, for many months there were rumors (never confirmed in writing, but confirmed if you spoke to an Anovos rep "in person") that they were switching to real leather. (Probably easier to do after signing with the company that did the Solo jackets.) For a while, the Marvel jackets were gone... in limbo... zero updates, then last year (I think?) the updated and finally confirmed the real leather change, plus that a communicator badge/pin would also be included. Of course, they were delayed along with all the other stuff. Currently slated for Q3 2020 with the Star Lord supposedly coming first. I have a Star Lord jacket on order with them. We'll see what happens with that one... with the complexity of it, I'd be pleasantly surprised to see it this year.

I got the shipping notice (and tracking) for my Picard jacket. Will update y'all when it arrives. It's a mixed-materials garment (real suede body and pleather shoulders, like the originals apparently were) so it will be interesting to see how it holds up quality-wise. The first Picard Darmok they did had an awful pattern (I returned it and got a refund)... the sleeves were shorter than advertised the body was made about 2-3 sizes too wide. I mean, I'm kind of an "average" build but that thing was like a tent on me. It looked ridiculous. But the new Darmok supposedly has a completely different pattern, so fingers crossed.

If the new Darmok holds up, that will be the third (or more?) majorly delayed jacket they will have finally delivered this year. A promising sign, for the soft goods department... (at least for me) since my outstanding orders with them will have been cut in half within six months! I wear my Solo TFA every time I go outside at the moment... I'm really happy with it so far but I'm thinking of either changing the lining or just ripping it out entirely.

Sad to hear the helmets being delivered are a mixed bag. That Vader nose looks awful but the ATAT pilot and Royal Guards look great. (And I can't really complain about the Mando bucket I got. It wasn't perfect... and the weathering was a bit heavy, but overall no major issues.)

I started off with a bad costume version I eventually sold. I missed the pre-order on the Anovos but ended up finding a Big Effect Props one second hand. It's pretty good and relatively accurate for what it costs.

How is it wearing? I'm just curious because the new leather seems quite stiff compared to how it looks on screen. I thought about putting some leather conditioner like Pecards on it to try to soften it a bit but was wondering if just wearing it regularly my help.

Cheers!

Zlurpo's jacket is great. The only fan-made with the correct screen printed pattern. (I recently sold mine... and only because I don't need two if/when Anovos eventually get their copy out. And if they don't, I'll just make it myself like I did with the Vol 1!)

The Solo jacket is breaking in pretty well. I've thougth about adding some conditioner to it as well, just to speed up the process, but it's definitely soften than when I got it. Mind you, with the virus... I haven't been out and wearing it that much since I got it but I wear it as often as I can. I've been told, by someone who saw/help an original up-close, that the leather in that was actually a lot thicker than it seems in the photos we've seen. But I'm guessing the screen jacket was put through an insane amount of punishment before shooting.

After hearing about the abuse the original Raiders jacket went through prior to filming, I don't doubt the FA one did as well. The leather looks very worn and distressed - almost to the point where it's breaking down similar to Zlurpo's version... Which is not a bad reproduction. It has it's faults...

I would like to have a little more shine on certain parts of the Anovos. You can actually get it... and I wonder if they maybe didn't do it to the screen jacket... by wetting the leather and putting immense pressure on it. (Like, striking it with a hammer!) Not sure I want to risk it, though. Some leather balm might be enough to bring out the shine.

Anovos just posted an update on the Darmok jackets. This actually has me hopeful. The pattern and overall shape in this version looks a thousand times better than the last one:

I like that the sleeves are slim and that the arm hole opening is very high up- something commonly done in movie/TV wardrobe to help the actors move better, especially during action scenes. (Look at some of the suits Connery wore in the early Bond films!) Stitching and construction looks decent but I'll subject it to close srutiny when it arrives. (Hopefully it's consistent across the run.) Heh... first nitpick: seems like there are not enough ribs on the shoulders. Should be around 12-13 on each side, not 10.

Received Vader today with a massive gouge on the bridge of his nose. Ordered when it was $700 last week, now it’s sold out and listed at $800. How convenient.View attachment 1319298
I've got one of these Anovos helmets. Nicest Vader bucket I have ever had. Although not screen accurate, it really LOOKS the part on my man cave Vader display. When the dome suffered a chunk of chipped patient over the brow, I asked one of my local church folks (who works for a car racing company) to fix it fox me. He re-did the entire dome for $100, so maybe you can can find an affordable way to get it repainted or touched up? I'm not sure I would send it back to Anovos... you probably won't get another Vader bucket back.

This is likely the route I'll go. In the last year I've gotten about 6 helmets and by far this one was the most exciting to arrive. I've got the Pyre Vader coming as well so I'll likely have someone kinda touch it up for me (it's not in my wheelhouse) but the fact it arrived damaged is infuriating. I'm new to the community here and I appreciate all the insight and feedback!

New pattern looks much better!

As a TNG fan , I was so excited when they announced this jacket, but couldn’t understand why they didn’t offer the undershirt to go with it. I would have bought one in a second...

Probably knew the interest was just not there.

When we sold them they did not sell well, but the Jacket did

Noooo, don't send your Vader back. At the prices and wait times they are obligated to suck up any damage done even by third party in delivery. Their terms and conditions say otherwise but that nose bridge is fixable: The biggest problem there would be to make sure the paint is matched exactly. I would definitely take it to a car painting specialist who can match and patch like the devil.

And maybe inform Anovos and have them pay you for the process.

They won't reimburse you but I like the idea of them being asked for the money.

Forgot to mention, but my Picard "Darmok" jacket arrived Monday. The fit is good, the ribs are more accurate than in the picture posted above -- I wonder if they decided to maintain rib width across sizes rather than scale them. The only downside is one I knew to expect: The pleather of the shoulder yoke reeks of chemicals out of the box. I have had it hanging outside for the last couple days and it's dissipated by about half. Pictures coming in the next day or so.

I only wish it were possible to get the shirt, but the fabric for the yoke is long gone, and to commission a run from a mill would result in shirts that are more expensive than the jacket. I guess I'll see how it looks with the heather lavender undershirt and trouser portion of the DS9/VOY uniform...

I got my Picard Darmok yesterday too.

Quick review:
  • Fit is great. Spot on, just like the Solo TFA.
  • Stitching is good, nothing to complain about.
  • Pleather doesn't smell on mine unless you stick your nose to it. (Apparently the real jacket was pleather in the shoulders as well?) The yoke is nice and even. (I might get the top of the shoulder "bells" taken in just a tad... depends on how it looks after being worn a while.
  • The suede is nice, good even texture and color. The inside suede has a couple small insect bites, but you never really see that part, so it's no big deal.
  • Surprisingly lightweight and soft.
  • Looks like the new stuff is being made out of Pakistan, not China. Probably a very good move. Lots of "movie jackets" coming out of there. I think Zlurpo makes his there, possibly Magnoli as well. The Dredd leathers all came from there (and still do, if you get the Leathernext ones). If you find the right shop, you can get really good results out of Pakistan. Bodes well for the other upcoming jackets. (I'm waiting on the Star Lord and the TWOK Field Jacket.)

Overall, aside from the long delay time, they did good and right by this one. A couple more degrees in righting the ship.

Like the Solo, I might actually wear this one out of the house (though more seldom, since the suede is more delicate).

Lucky. The smell is fading on mine, but oof. And yes, the original was pleather for just the one episode, then suede for the rest of the series, due to the shiny shoulders catching too much light spill from green and blue screen work.
I'm waiting on the Star Lord and the TWOK Field Jacket.
For me, it's the TFF Kirk/Command bomber jacket. The suede of the Darmok jacket has me hopeful for that one. Plus, of course, I'm also still waiting for my FOTK.

I normally just lurk in this thread to see if anyone's status has changed since I'm also waiting on a few ANOVOS pieces to be delivered (the FO TK kit, Rey Staff, and FO TK Pauldron directly from ANOVOS, and the Praetorian Guard and standard line FO Executioner helmets from BBTS). I saw ANOVOS was having a good sale on the 4th of July, and thought I'd take the risk of purchasing the AT-AT Driver Jumpsuit since even with shipping it was cheaper than the fan made ones. I ordered on the 4th and received it exactly one week later on the 11th. I know they still have a lot of items to actually ship, but thought I'd share that I was successful buying something in stock.

Also, I received my EFX Mandalorian helmet this weekend. Mine seems to be fine on the weathering, no cracks that I could see, but it is super dark. I don't have the proper lighting to get it to show up as well as others, so I won't share photos. It seems I got a good copy *knock on wood*. I just wish it wasn't so dark. I passed on the ANOVOS out of caution.

Very good to know that you're receiving your merch from Anovos. (y)
