ANOVOS issues (ANOVOS ONLY discussion)

I don’t think anyone is trying to paint Anovos as a victim here... it was just asked, where could the pre-sales money have gone. I suggested perhaps it went to licensing, and nowhere blame Disney for that. If you can’t pay for licensing and then launch your products due to lack of capital, then that is on on you as a company. Not Disney. You find yourself in that type of situation and you probably shouldn’t be starting the business to begin with.

I’m curious as to how much licensing costs

Back in the prequel era I worked for a company that produced, amongst other things, electronic chess boards. I forget who approached who, but I remember my boss telling me that they wouldn't be able to afford the license to put out an electronic Star Wars themed chess board\game. And that was when LFL was in charge. I can only imagine how expensive the license is for different properties now under Disney.

There's no way to be certain, since it comes down to negotiations, type of product, and how badly the licensee wants a specific product to get to market. Based on information I've come into direct contact with when it comes to games, it could be anything from 20-60% or the product cost. (I would be extremely surprised if it's lower than 30% for a well-known IP.)

As if the prevailing issues of Anovos ignoring customers and deleting social media comments, the fact that no retailers have put up new pre order items is pretty telling.

I just want my refund and I'll be totally done with that company.

All good - I just want to make sure I'm not misunderstood: Yes, there is language protecting both Anovos and Disney both.

Of course.

But a possible legal approach could be the following:

If it is shown that Anovos started doing something like running a full-on Ponzi scheme, or using puree'd spleens first harvested from living puppies and children, etc., then they are doing something illegal.

IF it can then be shown that Disney renewed the license (for example) while KNOWING such things, then Disney can possibly be legally vulnerable as party to fraud or, in the latter case, violent murder, etc.

Contracts do not protect illegalities and it is Disney who has the money to refund all of us over night.

I don't care about blame anywhere at all. I want Anovos and/ or Disney to make all of us whole in the immediate future. They are obligated and we are owed. They can argue between themselves who is at fault all they want. I don't care whose professional lives are forever destroyed and I don't care if all parties involved have to sell a kidney to do it. At this point none of us care.

If you DO care about the well-being of anyone over there then maybe you read A Christmas Carol recently or something like that.

It'll pass.

;)

You have nailed it. Working for a company that deals with licenses for Aliens, Ghostbusters, Halloween, Edward Scissorhands, Rocky and many more, I can tell you that there is a cost for EVERY TYPE of item... not just a blanket price for one license. We have a license for 1:4 scale statues, but if we want to make 1:6 scale, that is another fee. Then when we wanted to make a prop replica from a franchise, that was a different license than the one we got for the statues. Each one is a separate cost and those add up fast.

There is an interesting article about the Star Wars licenses and Hasbro. It's an interesting read just for the sake of how things work. Not saying these numbers or terms apply for Anovos but you get a general feel of what it might be like.

I am sure there is a large amount of money being paid to Disney both up front an as products are released. But I don't really think that is the point here. These are terms that are agreed upon. The questions is: Does Anovos have a business model that allows them to deal with all their costs and still be able to afford to product the products they already pre-sold?

I think the real issue that people are having is that they are afraid that Anovos is hemorrhaging money but yet securing enough funds to pay their people, get them into conventions, pay for their travel, cover their hotel fees, and meet with celebrities but not have enough to cover the costs of items still in production or be able to refund for those items.

So, I did get an email asking me to confirm whether I still wanted to cancel my order (had submitted my request back in January and hadn’t heard a thing).

The email also mentioned that in lieu of a refund, I could inquire about getting a discount on a different item from the website, and even said “or maybe something that is unavailable.” Not sure what that means. While I’m super curious about that last possibility, I went with the refund.

Now to see how long it takes to actually get done...

It’s probably because as more people cancel and get refunds, they now have theoretical product that is unspoken for that used to be marked as sold out.

Note how it will return to pre-order at a higher price.

More vapor ware from the thieves

Saw the Star Lord update: Are you kidding?!!!!

“start from scratch” I would put money down (as we have) is Anovos speak for NOT STARTESD AT ALL. Waow. Either way, you are getting pushed out to for sure miss another Halloween season at best.

Now watch, Kylo update will be the same: starting from scratch to make it even more amazing blah blah blah.

Even though it was flat out stated by Anovos that all the Kylos are finished and ready to ship. This was stated a year ago.

Has anyone heard anything about the Luke Pilot Helmet? First wave was supposed to ship by March. I know that in the history of Anovos slip dates this one is in the infant stages, (still waiting on TFA armor).

It was originally $550. Real leather and two (or three- I forget) types of raised-print fabrics, with the Mouse taking 30-50% of that... not surprising at all that they would raise the price if they offer more of them. IF Anovos goes under before they can deliver, it will certainly be vaporware, but if they DO finally manage to deliver it, the original price will be a steal.

(I am aware that there is a fan-made version that was sold for less than that- I have one, but I would hope that the overall pattern and general build will be better- especially if they do the proper raised texture print. Can't really tell the fine details from the photo, but the new prototype looks great.)
