I get all that. I used to work in the fashion business and know my true measurements really well and it is true that SOME clothing companies try to make you feel better about yourself by making the printed sizing smaller than your actual size. But the ANOVOS sizes are so far off that does not apply here.
ANOVOS sizing chart tells the men to measure their waists where they wear their pants.
The SMALLEST actual waist size that ANOVOS offers is 36"-38" which is much larger than the average guy. When I was 21 my actual measured waist size was 32" - I wore a 32" or 34" waist x 34" length) pant by most companies by the time I was 30 it was 33 waist (I then wore a 34" printed waist". That entire time I was in athletic shape and at 6' 2" 180 lbs I was not exactly a small person. After 30 I let myself go and I put on 40 pounds and my measured waist got up to almost 38" and I had to wear a very tight fitting 36" (for a short time until I started to lose weight) I'm 34 1 1/2" now.
Based on Anovos' size chart, if I had a 38" waist (measured size) and weighed 220 lbs, I would have to buy their smallest size. That makes no sense.
This is actually the third Item I have not bought an item because of their really strange sizing. I'm pretty sure whoever put the sizing down for the belts had no idea what they were doing and even though other people have brought it to their attention they have never fixed it. I'm guessing it's something like the "waist" sizes are actually the overall length of the belts, and the "hip" size is what your waist size should be (although it seems the range is too narrow), that
or "36-38" is supposed to be "26-28" and they are all misprinted by 10"...
I have no idea what they meant. I just know I can't order one of these belts because I don't know which one would fit me. I kinda of thought it would help them get other things shipped. I'm starting to see why these items are taking 2 1/2 years to get to people.
Note: I have a belt I have worn since I was 21. I wore it when my true waist was 32" and I wore it on the last hole when my true waist was 38". The overall length of the belt is 45". The large HS belt size "waist" in large is 44"-46". That is their middle size. That would make sense if they mean not "waist" but "overall length" - but then... why would it be a range and not an actual size.
Who knows.. .maybe they just are making belts for people who only have a 36" waist and larger.
Make sure you actually measure yourself. And when i say measure yourself, have someone else do it. If you try yourself, you usually get inaccuracies. That's sewing 101.
The thing to understand is this. The size waist you wear in a pair of jeans or other pants is not your actual measurements. Manufactures have been altering their labels for years to fit the sooth the ego of their customers. If you had two brand of jeans you were trying on and one was a size 32 and the other a size 34, and both fit, which would you buy. Studies say you buy the 32. And while we stereotype females with caring about that sort of thing more than males, males do care.
Funny thing about the military uniforms (at least the Navy), the sizes run true to measurements. Because the military does not care about your ego. I think when I wore a size 29 waist in Levis, I wore a size 33 in uniform pants.
So in summary, get yourself measured.
Also remember that your real waist on your body is a lot higher than where your pant waist is located. Your waist is right about at your belly button. Your pant waist is more like about 2 inches above the widest part of your hip.
