I was searching ebay for doctor who stuff and I came across this ring

anyone know anything about the seller?

It appears to be the one from The Celestial Toystore... which is the only replica available for sale right now, that I'm aware of.

However... the enameling looks kinda sloppy, and in the side view, I do NOT see the engraving that's supposed to be inside the band on ones made by The Celestial Toystore...

Could just be the angle of the pic, or the lighting, or his camera not making it show up... or... given the seller's location... he could be a recaster. Hard to tell for sure, though.

I really doubt it would be the Celestial Toystore ring. That one retails for £90 (about what... $160 now?) and the buy it now price with free shipping is $42.
It's some kind of recast or independently crafted ring.
For what it is, that's not a bad price. It would probably turn green if you wear it, though.

It's not a CT piece, but it also won't turn your skin green either. I can say these guys do a really fantastic job on some of their work. I ordered from this seller probably one of the nicest unlicensed Tardis key replicas I've bought in a long time. http://cgi.ebay.com/Dr-Who-ANTIQUE-...in_0?hash=item3353693356&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14 This set is the antiqued set i got and the details are nice and crisp. The metal is I believe a tin material which was aged. They have a plated set that is nice as well. I'd say, for the price, try this ring out.

If you don't mind the WORST customer service available. Waiting A MONTH to get your items! And the absolute WORST communication and follow through possible, go ahead and order from them!

Been there, done that, burned bad for a pretty crappy item! :angry

odd, I ordered a set of the TARDIS keys from them, and it took about 2 weeks to arrive. I didn't think it was that long to wait for Singapore to Canada, since I've had to wait sometimes 3 or 4 weeks from the US to Canada deliveries. as for customer service, I couldn't say, I had no issues, so didn't really have to deal with them much
:confused
dunno, a crap shoot like all of life

I actually had great communication from them and some pretty high quality key set. Less then two weeks for my items. I got feed back right away, and they even responded and followed through with feedback right away.

Payday has come and gone, checked the mailbox today and there were no bills, so I ordered a Master's ring, size 11. Now to keep an even closer eye on the mailbox.....
Of course with time zone differences, I didn't stop to think that 10 am Friday our time was probably closer to 10pm their time, and therefore it's not likely they would even see my purchase until Saturday, and then of course the question of if it can be shipped on a Saturday, or they'll just wait until Monday...ah well, as I said my last purchase from them came in about 2 weeks, so I'll give them 2.5 before getting antsy. Once it arrives, I'll get some pictures up and a bit of a review!

Well, that's a bit of a bump to an old thread XD Usually we don't bump anything over a year old but, I can say the ring in that auction was not the licensed pewter piece. One thing I learned about the ring sold is that it IS steel and it's not licensed. Also they put the emblem on wrong. XD Still, I ordered one and it's actually not bad. The enamel isn't bad or sloppy. It's just the way the light reflected off it in that picture.

Here's mine:

The detailing isn't bad and the enamel fill looks good. Issue is the positioning of the emblem. If you look here:

you can see the two largest circles are supposed to be off center but on the Utopia Base ring, they are straight. Rather inaccurate of them but it's not HORRIBLE. I did a quick test on mine using a metallurgical kit and it is indeed steel. For the price it's not bad, certainly better than the plastic ones but not as accurate as the pewter one or as high quality as a Celestial Toystore ring. Another thing about the quality is the blemishes on the rest of the ring. Dunno if it's all of them but on the side of mine I get this:

I tried to angle it as best I could so the light catches the flat spot on the side but that's the worst of the blemishes. there's also one on the other side that isn't as noticeable and another on the band.

Anyhow, hope that helps anyone else that may find this thread.

Actually mine is the pewter replica, and the largest circles are offcenter:

This is from John Hadlow or Who'sToys in the UK.

On the inside of the ring is something like a maker's mark. There is a circle similar to @ and the numbers 1983 which doesn't make sense from what I know of the year these were first made. So I don't know if it is a date or the number that have been issued?

Well, yes the one you posted a link to is but the one this thread is about isn't licensed. It's from a maker in Singapore called Utopia Base. The Pewter one is nice though and has the emblem off center like it should.

The one originally shown is much like the TV series version, which was rather sloppy from screen grabs seen. Does anyone know who owns that?

I actually bought this ring from them when they first started offering. I was hesitant because of where they were located, but it arrived quickly (for international) and is a nice replica. It is steel, so it is a cheep alternative to pewter or silver. I'd say give them a try.
