Another way to achieve those Amazing Spiderman shoes

I, like others in the UK, have been finding it extremely difficult to locate the Asics Dirt Dogs 3 shoes required for the ASM suit and short of paying over £100 the possibility of acquiring a pair slowly diminished.

So I decided to try another route. I managed to get a pair of the other colour variant of the Asics Dirt Dogs 3 which are black, silver and yellow and at present are widely available in the UK and very cheap too. I picked up a brand new pair for £15 inclusive of P&P.

After receiving them I immediately set about working out how to get the ASM look along with how I am going to strip them down. Since the shoes are exactly the same as their red/silver counterparts, the only problem I faced was the colouring. However I know there are alot of good fabric paints out there capable of doing the job. With this in mind I came up with the following:

1. Change the colour of the soles from yellow to red
2. Paint the balck fabric part of the shoes to silver
3. Where needed add the blue colour required to complete the shoe

I have begun with the first step and I have included pics below to how they look at the moment. I used a simple red sharpie pen to achieve this:

As you can agree a cheaper way of achieving the ASM look. Hope this helps anyone who needs it, especially those of us in the UK.

Second post of the day. I decided to begin stripping these shoes down before I begin painting them. I thought this would be the best way. I sought advice on here before doing so but the general concensus is just cut and rip into them until you are left with the bare shell and that is exactly what I did, removing everything from the insole to the padding at the back of the shoe.

As you can see I went to town on these bad boy until I was left with exactly what I wanted. I went of the threaded edges with a lighter to get rid of all the loose thread which also allowed me to kidna seal them too. As the threads melt you can use your finger to trace the line of the sole spreading the melted material along creating a smooth edge. However be careful as it gets really hot lol.

Got mine bought, will be keeping an eye on this thread to see how goes, before I attempt mine :)

WIP shot of painting of the shoes....

Not bad considering they were black and yellow. Really not a bad option....

That actually looks pretty good, I don't see any hint from when you look at it from outside that it was black and yellow before. What kind of paint did you use thorneyboy?

A couple of pics of one of the shoes nearing completion......takes a few coats buts it gets the job done.

I am using plastikote fast dry paint I got from B&Q

You can see the other shoe and what it used to look like behind...

Man this is really good! You have completely transformed these shoes to the spiderman used version! Wonderful job! I think I am gonna do the same ,once I receive the print from Taylor...

firebapx - I got mine yesterday from ebay, just do a search for them, you'll find some. Or try amazon also.
