Just between you and me, it was a "Slide Open" magnifier from
Walgreens

It looked like it had potential for modification......

After adding the backlight and graphic, I noticed that there was a fair amount of room between the light and backing plate.

So, I may see if I can add a couple LED's to the screen. To make it look more active....

The backing now is styrene.

If I make it out of double sided copper board, I may be able to add a small blinky circuit to the inside and simulated etched "touch pads" to the outside....
(just thinking out loud).

hahah no way... I have that exact same thing! I bought it from radio shack., I was going to do something to it like that, never got around to it...

I think adding some "detail metallic tape" is a great idea.

But before I finalize the look, with added metallics, I will have to
complete the interior electronics FX first, so I don't damage the
metal tape finish.

Could you please tell me what colors/products you are using for the paint.

So far the body of this "found item" is the original color.
It has not been painted. The dark and light gray is the natural
color of the plastic.

Would one of those little digital picture frames that CVS has for 12.00 fit in the display area? You could use changing jpg's then.

I have a few of those "photo players" around and have used them in other props I have done, like the tricorders.

I think this item would have the height but not the width or length. It would be a tight fit. The USB connector would have to be accounted for as well. Maybe someone could give it a shot. There is all kinds of players MP3 / MP4 around, maybe there is a design that is small enough to fit....

I kind of like the blue scanning bar and I am not sure if that could still be part of the design with the photo player...

If possible, that would be an interesting modification.
