Another Tardis Book Shelf

So this is going to be my first real finished prop thread.

A few weeks ago my sister turned 30 and she's also moving out. So I wanted a real good present for her and what could be a better gift for a massive WHOvian than a Tardis book shelf (except of a real Tardis maybe^^).

So I built her a massive Tardis Book shelf. I've to say that this was my first time doing some woodwork. I didn't have any professional tools or help at all. I did everything, even guessing the measurements to make it fit in her new place.

I know that it's not very screen accurate or build very well but due to a small budget, no eletrical tools (except a drill) and no help I had to make a lot of compromises (I started to call that thing Cardis - Compromises and relative dimension in space).

At least my sister's very happy and I'm still proud of myself for this being my first time doing something like this.

I was thinking about painting the hinges but funnily enough it was already hard to find a dark blue wood stain. I'm afraid that if I try to paint the hinges that the two shades of blue won't match what would make the color difference even worse.

Mix model paints to get a colour that closely matches. Even if it's off a bit it'll look more uniform. :thumbsup

Daborg: I'm so sorry for not noticing your question here.

I'd say: take some time and make some drawings, including measurements. All the time used for planing and measuring will save you a whole lot of trouble.

And painting those things is a real pain in the ass. I needed four layers of paint and every layer had to dry out for about 6 - 8 hours.
