Another Red Skull

After seeing Mr Bungle's amazing job, and others as well, I thought I had to take a stab at the Skull as well.
I opted for the movie version -I like the comic version better, but thought it might not translate as a mask as well as the movie one. I really liked the mask CFX had out, so I used pics from that. I definitely do not like the costume of the movie so I will be going with the SS Allgemeine look by Hugo Boss!
This is the first time I have used Monster Clay and I found it really great to work with, I especially love the texture and how it feels. The only thing is that I have a hard time with the finish and getting the head smoothed out, as it looks a little dimply. Question: will this matter too much in the latex pull? I am thinking the detail is more so in the paint job than the final sculpt, but maybe I am wrong.
Any comments, help or criticisms would be appreciated.

if you don't scale it up to account for the shrinkage of the latex you're not going to be able to wear it. As it is the neck will not stretch enough to get it on. also I suggest you bring the brow and cheeks out further and cut back the tip of the nose area. This will give a better feel of his missing nose. Hope this helps looking good so far

You have a good eye, thanks alot Woodman, I was about to mold it up this weekend. You saved me some heartache.

I agree with what woodman said. Taper in the nose, and work on the bone structure a little on the cheek. I did a red skull myself, I did more of a skull look though than the movie. I also made the sculpt bigger, to accomodate the missing nose aspect of the mask. I personally didnt go the CFX route because I didnt really like the skin flap thing over the nose and cheek. I made mine out of silicone, but it matters how clean you get the first layer of whatever you are going to make the mold out of (detail coat). Good luck though man, Ill be following this thread.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, the skin flap thing is not really pleasing me at the moment. I also regret not having a toothy grin, but I can always do another one. I did cut back the nose a bit and it does look better but I may change it more to look like the movie version or something closer to Mr Bungles. The main thing is that I am really getting a kick out of sculpting again, it has been a while.

I always liked the movie skeletor approach to covering the nose-

Ok, taking advice from Woodman and Snikt, I went for broke and just filled in the face area and started practically over. The nose has been raised to look more like a skull than the skin flap thing I had before. It was hard to just dive in and go against everything I had already done, but I think I am liking this much better. The previous sculpt looked a little sad or confused according to my wife, so I am hoping this looks more benevolent. This about an hour and a half work, so not a big set back, not to mention that I was spared molding a head that would have been too small.

By the way, how do you put photos up like nick darling's? I can only seem to list them like above, which I don't like.

I think there is a weird problem with uploading photos right now on the board- http://www.therpf.com/f16/help-i-can-no-longer-upload-photos-195932/

However if you copy the image's link and put "image tags" around it like this-

You should be able to post the whole photo.

The only problem remains that your image is gigantic and wouldn't look good posted into the forum's framework.
If you upload your file to something like Photobucket it will resize your photo to more manageable size and even provide a forum friendly "pretagged" image address.

Thanks Nick! Here is a couple more shots of it starting to look more skull like and definitely more pissed off looking. I am liking it much better than the previous look.

Yeah man that looks WAY better. I like the size of the mouth. I used my own teeth, and just curved the lips of the mask around my own and it stayed pretty well. I should upload some pics but Im too lazy lol. Looks great though, loving the sculpt!

Yeah, I would like to see your photos Snikt - get a red bull into you and post 'em up!

Haha ok maybe I will, I gotta find some from SDCC. I think if you do an image search you should find em. To be honest, I dont think I even know how to upload pics lol

Pretty much done with the costume. I got a Walther PPK and holster to add to the belt and I will wear a brown shirt, not white. Of course I can't forget the gloves.

I think I might be nearing the end here - Some finishing details (wrinkles, lines and things). Am I missing anything or is there any thing I should address before wrapping it up besides what I mentioned?
