Another MPC Millennium Falcon Modification

I only just found this thread.
How you have been able to ‘massage’ the MPC kit into a copy of the 5 footer is truly amazing and shows dogged diligence! A beautiful build. An MPC Falcon that looks like the box photo – or better. Imagine.
Mine's till in the box collecting dust. What a dream build this would be ....

Thanks very much for the comments guys......but theres still so much to do!!

I bought another MPC Falcon......I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet, I don't think I'm going to build it as 'The Millennium Falcon', it might be another YT variant.....but I've taken some comparison photos:

A comparison with the original kit:

...and an overlaid image:

I've eventually (almost) finished the actuators on the rear deck:

& started the underside actuators:

The plastic coated rod that I get from my nearest Model Shop:

The rod cut to length and some of the plastic removed:

Almost finished detailing the forward landing gear box:

Next project to do is make landing gear.

Thanks again for the support

This is by far the best MPC Falcon building I ever see.
You are reaching a incredible level of detailing with this kit.
Bravo

This is some fine modelling work. It's amazing how much time and effort you put into making these awesome models look even more...awesomer... :lol

Amazing Falcon model builders at the RPF. I am insanely jealous. Scratchy, crackerjazz, and now Jaitea.

Sigh... Yes. I'll have to subscribe to this thread too... I am never going to sleep...

LOVE the work you've been doing to this kit bro... awesome job so far... but I gotta ask... are you scratch building the side greebles and if so what kits are you using to do so... if not are you adding detail to the provided greeble sides?

Thanks LrdSatyr8, & I'm impressed by your work also (can't wait to see the finished R2)

I'm making a list of the kits I bought to make this mod....& will post soon, I also used a lot of electronic parts that I gathered up over the years...mainly old CD/DVD laser mechanisms. Anything that looks interesting & chuck in a box.

Can't wait to see that list... and thanks bro... the build has slowed down trying to figure out the lighting circuit!

Well thanks PredatrHuntr

I've done a bit more to the underside, no primer yet:

Love all the bits and pieces your adding to this baby. Really makes me want to break mine out of the closet and start working on it! :)

You should, with your outlook & problem solving skills you would make an amazing Falcon

I was wondering, have you thought about doing the 5 landing gear version?

I really loved the original 'Star Wars' (ANH) version of the ship, the 5 gear version is cool also......a lot of people like to add the extra boxes to make the ship look updated but I'd prefer to see her as she looked in the first film.

I am also building the FineMolds 1/72 along side this build & it will have the 5 gears

Once you finish those 'droids, get the Falcon kit out!

My next kit will be a speeder bike with scout. I wanna see if I can re-create the Gentle Giant version with the AMT kit. Should be alot of fun! :)

Ok, did some more work and got her primed:

All actuator rods done:

Landing gear next

Thanks Angel, it's slow work!!

I've started making the landing gears, I want to be able to display the ship landed or flying, so the legs need to be removable.

The original legs with the kit are actually pretty good:
originallegs.jpg

If you compare them to the blueprints for the full-size set:
halfres.jpg

I removed the housing tubes from the original Gear boxes and trimmed them down a bit:
locators.jpg

I bought some brass rod & copper pipe to use as stronger legs:
rods2.jpg

rods.jpg

The removed plastic rods:
legh.jpg

The rod & pipe cut to length, also a metal rod (laser guide rod from an old DVD player):

The legs slotted in.....

......I used a magnet to hold them in:

Looks amazing. Might be a bit premature in asking but if the landing gear is only used for display when it's on the ground, how will you display it as if it was in flight? Or haven't you got that far ahead yet?

In any case, I look forward to finding out! Great work so far!!

hikarub: I think I'll probably use the solution many others have used to mount the model as though it was flying, and make a mounting socket under the lower gun on the turret. The gun could be re-attached by a magnet when landed....?

Thanks LrdSatyr8, I can't wait till I get these legs done (& they are level and the right height etc)

I've slowly made the rear legwork, it would help if I had a sharper/newer hacksaw blade!
