After seeing (and ordering one of) JmtwoÂ’s beautiful Minority Report balls, and after seeing and being inspired by bbabichÂ’s awesome fantasy MR i.d, I decided to sort of jump on the Precrime bandwagon and create my own PCDC (PreCrime: District of Columbia) identification card to display right beside my ball.
I loosely based the design of this on the credit card that Anderton gives to the doctor who replaces his eyes. (I assumed that in the MR universe, there would be a sort of standard technology with regard to these types of things, so I made the PCDC i.d. vaguely similar.)
Here are the details on this piece, which was really fun to create:
1. The holograms are actually a 20% silver screen printed on lexan. When you look at the silver directly, it’s nearly transparent – when you tilt it, the silver picks up the light and really shines. The photos don’t do it justice.
2. The barcode is real and is actually encoded with the name John Anderton. (Not sure if the silver would scan, however, but the barcode on the bottom is also encoded with this info.)
3. The Logos: “Department of” and “District of Columbia” are made from a font I found and modified. I built the word “PRECRIME” in Illustrator, using graphics from the precrime.org website.
4. The photograph isn’t from MR – I looked around until I found an appropriate hi-res photo of our favorite scientologist, and modified his clothing in Photoshop.
5. The data: Badge number, etc. Most of this is just for fun – I watched MR a couple of times and if Anderton’s badge number was shown, I missed it, so I just made this up. It’s a compilation of different, meaningful things: PKD (you know what that means) 1138 (my little tribute to you know who) LRH130431911 (I’ll send one of these to first person to correctly guess and post the significance of this info). The rest of the data is height, weight, retinal scan info along with date of birth and predicted date of death.
6. Size: I wanted to make this the same size as, say an FBI i.d, but I couldnÂ’t find specific dimensions. I ended up going with standard military size, which is 3.88 by 2.63 inches.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this – Are there corrections that need to be made? Did I forget to include some vital info? Please let me know – I’m looking forward to displaying this next to my shiny red ball, and I want it to be as cool as possible. (You're looking at a prototype; the final i.d. will have rounded corners, of course.)
Thanks for looking, folks. If thereÂ’s interest in these, and if I wouldnÂ’t be stepping on anyone's toes, I'd love to offer a run - say $20.00 shipped. I'll post an interest thread in the junkyard, and if you want in just pm me.
