While there's a bit of Jumanji fever going about, I thought I'd share my build.
I tried to carve the board out of wood a couple of years ago and it went terribly. After seeing some of the great results users on here have had with using a resin plate for the lid I gave that a try.
I initially sculpted the carvings in a slab of super sculpey.
I then molded and cast in resin
After that I routed out a recess in a piece of pine, glued in the resin plate, cut it and stained it.
Staining didn't give quite the look needed, but at least it has sealed the wood. I'm currently doing the paint job, aswell as trying to figure out a way to produce the border pieces.
