I have the pep files for the palm and finger armour and i'll probably wear an all in one red suit underneath everything so any gaps in the hands will still show the red fabric underneath. For the lights in the palms i've got some of those tough light LED things but as I was worried they might be a bit too bulky I ordered some LED lights off Ebay that are meant for bicycles and i'm hoping I should be able to integrate them into the suit.

wow realy ? i gota give props man that would b hard to do concidering the size are you putting piks on or have you done a thread if so im defo up for following that as id love to learn how u did it buddy i wouldnt mind doing one for my lad but hes 7 lol

Cheers dude, yeah i'm finding the fibre glassing massively time consuming that's before I even start doing the sanding and filling stage let alone incorporating electronics!

A little Iron Man suit for a toddler is going to look the cutest thing ever! Hope you put some pics up to see that.

Yeah they are really tricky in places, I use a combo of Pritt stick and hot glue for the fiddly bits that I need to hold instantly. I've seen that toy thing you mentioned and yes I think your home made solution will definitely look better!

thanks buddy , im using pva glue all the way through not used one bit of hot gue for any of it lets hope it turns out as gd i expect lol have you seen made007's build for war machine hes done an amazing job on the hands

That is proper cute! May I ask where you got your strapping from? That's what i'm looking to do next before sanding.

Cheers for the link dude, ordered some the other day and have it ready to go. It's going to interesting to work out how to strap eveything on. There's a guy on here called xrobotos who'd made an incredibe looking exoskeleton for everything to clip onto and he's also made some hinged boots. Amazing skills! Hope your suit build is going well. I've just started applying filler to the chest piece. It's hard work!

So been trying to get lots more done this weekend, everything is getting tricky now and even more time consuming to make progress. Got almost everything fibreglassed now and hooked up the dremmel to hack off and tidy up any unsightly/badly done bits of fibre glassing.

Bought some mirrored sunglasses to use for the helmet and some white scrim material to cover them with. Just need to order some LED's for the lighting now. Will post photos once I have progress on this.

Also started applying filler to the chest piece today, think it's going ok but my skills with filler aren't anywhere near as good as some of the amazing skills I see on here. If anyone has any tips or advice they can give me to get good results from the filler stage I would be massively grateful!

Hi there guys, if anyone has any advice on the filler stage then it would be massively appreciated! good techniques, how to get pieces done quickly and efficiently etc. Really don't want to screw things up at this stage. Many thanks!

Here's some tips from research (not necessarily from experience yet)

1. Use a sanding block rather than bare paper, I'm going to cut different size pieces of wood and stick sandpaper with double-sided tape.
2. Use long, flat strokes in different directions
3. Get some spray paint and dust on a "guide coat" between grits of sandpaper. That way when the paint is gone you know you got the whole piece sanded. This will also highlight low spots.
4. Use spot putty for the low spots you find. Easier to work than regular filler
5. Wet sand. Not sure of the best time to do this but I heard it helps.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Hope it helps!

Cheers for the tips Incinerator! Looks like i'm going about it the right way then. I'm using a sand block and i'm using grey primer as a guide coat. I have some knifing putty for any pits or small details that need tweaking out. The bits i'm finding tricky now are when I get filler in detailed areas and it's really dificult to sand.

Getting a little worried now that this won't be finished for Halloween! Agh! :cry

How did you do your boots?

I've been agonizing on how to do them properly from robo's files. Right now I'm thinking about cutting out the bottom of the middle shoe part, reinforcing the sole with casting resin, then sticking a piece of high density foam to build up the heel, then sticking a shoe on top of that. I'll fiberglass the three pieces together on the inside before adding the casting resin and foam and cut off the top to stick the foam and shoe in, then fiberglass the top back in place on the inside.
