Another 'Buck' ship; Somebody stop me!

AWESOME!

If you are offering all of these things, I'm going to be very poor :p

LOVE these...

Right now the wings are just very lightly glued on to those 'vents'.

I don't plan on molding this one- its a one-time build.

Is that the Monogram Cylon Raider hull on the bottom? Interesting bit of studio-scale inbreeding going on there...

I have a vague recollection of these being used in a race epoisode of BR..is this correct or am i nuts here.

I remember that ship! I think I made one out of legos back in the day! LOLOLOLOL.... very kewl Mark!

What's the status of the Marauder?

There was a similar ship used in 'Olympiad'- the story is here:

Krachenvogel,
Yes, those are parts from the TOS Cylon Raider kit- needed two kits actually. In one of the pictures in the above link, you can actually see a couple of the Raider kit boxes sitting on the workbench.

I always suspected that the original model used Raider engine parts- I assumed it was parts from the studio-model molds. It wasn't until I took the time to scale the sled that I discovered this would make the model way too big. There is a pefect shot of an actor (Peter Graves)actually holding the miniature (see below).

More updates in the Flicker album...

Also, a little background on the model:

It was first seen in 'Plot to Kill a City' where Buck impersonates mercenary Rafael Argus- the sled was Argus' ship (with a sexy talking on-board computer)

In the very next episode, 'Return of the Fighting 69th', it is featured as the 'Seymore Class Cargo Sled'- the ship used by the retired squadron to attack the bad guys' asteroid base.

The same interior cockpit set was used for both episodes and it matches what you see on the model pretty well, but the latter episode portrayed the ship as having a 'tail gunner' dome somewhere behind the cockpit between the engines, although no such detail existed on the miniature- this makes me think that the model was built for the 'Plot to Kill a City' episode.

The sled also appeared in several other episodes of the series, many times as a stock shot from one of the previously mentioned episodes.

Although 'reuse and recycle' was commonplace on shows like "Buck", the use of the sled in these episodes is consistant with it's portrayal as an older model 'cargo sled and bomber as mentioned in 'Return of the Fighting 69th'.

The only thing that doesn't make sense is the 'cargo sled' part- not sure where the cargo would go, unless it pulls some sort of cargo container (an interesting thought...)

In trhe Fighting 69th Show, Peter Graves mentioned adding the turret to the design, they just didn't bother to add it to the model.

I always loved this ship (well, most of the ships from Buck rogers) I just never figgured out how you got in and out of the ship lol

Hey Mark!

Ever consider making any of the lame ships from season 2? Like those ridiculous SHARK-shaped ships from the Julie Newmar alternate universe?

There are very few Buck ships I don't like; the shark fighters and the queen's ship from that episode are two of them though. I don't out and out hate them, but they just dont' excite me very much.

The next time I spend time on a Buck subject, it will probably be a studio-scale Hawk fighter.

G- did you get my email?

Mark

I would like to see some pictures of your Buck Roger / Wilma fighter.

I don't know the name of it.

Mark,
I sent you a PM regarding delivery of my Marauder kit I ordered well over 6 months ago. Please get back to me. Thanks.
