Anh Vader face paint scheme

I have seen various posts on different forums all contradicting each other on this subject..and on some of the screencaps it is VERY hard to tell..so I figured I would ask here (pm me if necessary) what is your opinion on the following? ( pics would be a big help

):

- nose indent: silver or the same gunmmetal as the rest of the highlights?
-wearers right "whisker" ( the angled area under the main cheek): Black or Gunmetal?
-wearers left "whisker": Black or Gunmetal
-edges of notched nose bridge:Black or Gunmetal?

The whiskers are both metallic gray. They are mostly in shadow but if you study the screen caps of the Death Star scenes very carefully, you'll see the metallic paint in the whiskers catch a teensy bit of light to show they're actually pained.

The bridge of the nose with three notches: metallic gray also.

In my attempt to paint my Sarge ANH helmet, I studied my ANH DVD carefully, using the zoom feature on my DVD player and came to one conclusion that of course will be argued. There is no definite pattern.

I saw a couple different paint schemes in a couple of different scenes.

This lead me to believe they painted the helmet to accomodate the different lighting conditions of any particular scene. That was the reason for painting the highlights in the first place. It certainly wasn't for artisitic reasons.

I ended up going with the scheme from the Tantive scene where he confronts Leia. Very minimal, with no side stripes visible.

I do believe that the nose is a more pure silver color as opposed to the highlights with are a gunmetal color.

Can I chime in with a Vader paint question here?
I know the mask was painted with the silver highlights to accommodate the set lighting, and I (just like most folks here, I'm sure) was shocked to see the two tone paint the first time I saw a helmet in the flesh. My question is - how does the helmet look painted entirely gloss black? Does it hold up in normal lighting conditions - or is all the detail lost? Just curious!

It looks lifeless. I think that's the best word to describe it. Once you know it's two-toned... pure black will look odd to you even though you previously thought it was all just black.

It loses it's detail almost completely. When I painted my Sarge ANH helmet, I left it all black for quite awhile while I figured out what scheme to go with.

No cheeks, no eye definition, nothing.

Well, if you guys are going ANH with the paint scheme, try some FolkArt acrylic paints. They're water soluble, and they come off with some warm soapy water. So shoot the gloss black as need be, and then use the gun metal on. If you don't like it, you can always wash it off. Honestly, it's up to you how you paint it. We get so anal over accuracy. Sometimes reproducing how a prop looks on screen is more fun than trying to reproduce the prop as it appeared in real life.

I two-toned my Rubies Vader after modding the hell out of it. For years since seeing the movie as a kid, I thought it was all black until I got on here. Now I think it's cool with the two tone look. It looked odd with just the base grey tone but took on a whole new look with the black areas masked and painted.
