ANH OB1 lightsaber.

Weren´t the originals made of steel?

At least the original one i´ve seen was steel, i didn´t bought it cause it was to corroded to my liking.

no,the grenade has a brass section,with windvane.
For a stunt version,I think it's possible to make it with steel, and put th windvane on it.
It would be bigger to go into the steel grenade section and graflex clamp.
Would be a little bit like Russ spacer made from aluminum, but from hard steel, empty to diplay batteries, and ending like the brass section of grenade, then,we add pommel and booster, graflex clamp, steel grenade section, windvane and emitter from "hero" prop,to get sure both sabers would be similar on video.

today I made the inside of my new pommel, and it screws perfectly on the booster now.
Externally,it's exactly like my Russ pommel.
I have to do the "cubes" now, then polish, then a layer of chrome...
I think I wont drill it,and make a covertech port like on ep III,it looks better for me.

If someone has closeup screenshots from ep III and IV,I would be happy!

Sorry I misread your post #40 you were talking about the brass windvane section, my bad.

The covertech clip on ROTS OBI-Wan is placed on the booster section not the pommel :)

Also I have seen covertech clips on which the center of that clip is used as the chargerpoint
when the lightsaber has Luxeon light inside.

Yes,I know,I wont use chargepoint,but I will put a covertech clip,on booster of course,like you mention!

Here is what it looks like for the moment:

You can see how dark is the booster with TIN treatment!

expensive,only for steel,for industrial use.
but we send plenty of items for this kind of treatment,so it's easy for me to obtain treatment for free...
I would make a remington 1858 replica with TIN treatment,tu use for shooting, but reenactment too,and collection, and for the challenge of making a gun too...

if it's new Russ run,it's not possible,because it's aluminum...
Will need "anodisation" to give black color with durability and good finish,no paint.
but if I an right,Russ already offers this ervice,so,it's good!

News of today:

I have began to polish the pommel, sanded inside, and drilled 6 holes to put bolts, there will be some sund, and a metallic part to hide speaker, then the cap to close.
Externally, will look like a AS handwheel, but inside it will be different.

Hello,
I have built the saber as a static prop for the moment.
I am thinking about making a new booster myself, adding modifications inside.
Grenade looks just like a real grenade now,I show it to a friend,WWI and WWII collector...
I will sale emitter, pommel, booster and mounting accessories as soon as I finish my own pieces to replace them.

I have to think about a way to put a removable blade on the emitter, the emitter would be a kind of blade holder, with a luxeon, and a way to hide it when displayed as a static prop.

I would make a working slide button with exactra bubble.

I would make the saber in 4 removable parts:emitter and brass,steel grenade body,graflex clamp,and booster-pommel.

I would all to be invisible when assembled,as the prop would be a static prop,a poor condition rusty lightsaber, but inside, all working,in perfect condition, and easy to discover.
I'm thinking about something like camera lenses syste to maintain elements together,or a bolt-screw system, incuding a kind ok jack connection,I don't really know how to do...

That is a thing of beauty...currently working on my AFB and weathered and I hope it'll come out as half as nice as yours.

here is the pommel with its cap, finished yesterday:

and a diatum energy cell, assembled in the middle, parts on left and right:

Today I received my origina AS handwheel.
Nothing to see with replicas, some round parts are different, and there is no slope on main diameter and cube section on replicas.
Only original handwheels show the slopes.
The function is to use a two parts mold instead of a very complex and expensive assembly.

On modern, one part handwheel, mold has big slopes.
on old models,5 parts melat and plastic, mold has very soft slopes, cloe to 0°

I have machineda new stainless steell replica, accurate to original AS handwheel and not the russrep one.
I wil try to reproduce the slope with machining.

About the cap,I will try to reproduce the engravings on my replica.
It wont be easy, not just a simple molding of actual cap...
Internal structure on my replica is very different.
made from steel, but very light,I have reduced thickness as possible,I will add some brass elements inside: acooling system for energy cell...
