ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

AstroZopyros the main problem when building these now is that there is so many inaccurate replicas being built that it can be misleading. I’ve been guilty of this myself in the past. But if u study the film prop closely and don’t pay to much attention to how others build it.. you’ll be better served IMHO anyhow.

With regards to the t track there is one person here on RPF whos opinion is respected highly and he believes there wasn’t even a T track to begin with. So it’s really up to you how you go about your build. Myself I mostly try and capture the last know imagine of this prop. But even that is in question as the rail doesn’t look to be that weathered during the actual filming of the docking bay scenes.

Now as for the antenna greeblies. There was believed to be two when the props department originally built this hero. Unfortunately one fell off before filming even started. And by the time filming was complete the one that was left looks to be really beaten up. Only the head of the one antenna looks to have survived in the end! This is a collection of photos of this prop before it was dismantled for the last time. The weathering on the rail is believed to be from the props department taking it apart (mount scratching off the paint on the rail) and then putting it back together over the course of filming as this prop was used at least in one other scene by an imperial officer.

Hope this helps and if you have any other questions, I’ll do my best to answer if I can..

Some think it was longer because the Merr Sonn cast blaster has a full length piece of t track and 2 antenna on it, and its a cast of the hero gun before they swapped lower frames.

It is technically conjecture though that it broke and got smaller, i kind of think they sculpted the T track smaller for the final hero gun because the damage would be different if it was blown off. The other antenna, yes I think the stems cracked off and at least one antenna body stayed

Ya exactly. When they casted the MerrSonn my understanding was they casted the full “Naked Runner” top and bottom. That’s what you mean thd9791 right? Here is that MerrSonn blaster prop and you can see how they covered up the scope mount holes..

I’ve also read how for the t track on the MerrSonn it’s still not full intact. They cut the bottom rails off on each side and the antennas still sit on the bull barrel itself. But again.. it’s all subjective right..

I bet that circular mounting piece came off, and that’s what stripped the bluing off for what we see as the Mystery disc.

That’s the belief as well but not on that above prop. That above prop “MerrSonn” is different from the “hero”. They hero uses that top but not the bottom from above. It’s a little confusing but eventually it will make sense. Have you read the anh hero blaster thread? If not you should start there. It’s long and gets longer by the month but lots of great info to found on this prop..

At this point, there's no real true understanding of the barrel greeblie, unfortunately. There isn't any proof or evidence of T-track even being present basing on the research of the available reference material in this thread.
The two antenna theory started way, way back and it tends to still be a standard somehow...sort of like the rubber T-track theory did/has.

But we do know for sure that there was only 1 single antenna/pushrod on the barrel in all of the photos, even the earliest ones we have access to.
..That greeblie is probably the biggest mystery of this prop, overall.

None taken, Nothing makes me think that at all! That’s why I was wondering if yours is correct as I’ll be doing an ANH build soon! I’ve seen most greeblie kits come with 2 pins and the t track is flat on top. And haven’t seen any good original references that even show it in detail. But most people that do this build use the pins as are and leave the t-track flat. Though I personally think your way looks more like a site actually would.

Also, there's only one photo of the antenna showing what appears to be a missing/broken stem (the Left-side Chronicles photo), which was heavily cropped for the tan background and overcropped in many areas.
It's very possible that the stem was still present, but simply cropped out when they photoshopped the photo for the book.

So that's still technically up in the air as well. Without better photos and more proof, this photo is all that really suggests that theory. Otherwise, although very few, the rest of the evidence seems to suggest that it was possibly present/intact. But even then, those were earlier photos of the prop...thus causing multiple possibilities...again =/

You can see the one full unbroken antenna here in this photo for example..

I think deadbolt could be right about that Chronicles pic being cropped but it would mean that it was cropped on both sides as well. If there was only a cleaner pic of the above view..

Photo angles (and quality to an extent) seem to be the main reason we can't see the antenna stem in all but one of the publicly available photos, as seen in the blue-background promo pic noted by chubsANDdoggers (the same one as the first photo below).

The problem with the Right-side chronicles photo is that the stem would be obscured behind the scope, note how the stem in the blue promo photo shows the stem hanging noticeably higher than the Mauser's Upper receiver, even past the bull-barrel.

The Right-side photo is the only one of the chronicles photos we have an un-cropped copy of, as seen below. Note the somewhat straight angle of the blaster vs. the blue-promo and where the antenna would be in correlation and perspective behind the Scope in this photo,

ANH Hero Original.png

The stem wouldn't be visible at this angle if present. Also notice as well how they cropped out the flat-bottom on the bull-barrel in the cropped version vs. the un-cropped..
If only we had a better/clearer version of that Top-view chronicles photo...sadly that's a photo we're all not allowed access to.

ya good point, it would be hidden by that scope. Its a shame that info cant be accessed or shared. Eventually something will turn up..

Hello All...

I recently picked up a "DENIX" Broom handle Mauser in Metal with wood Grips. I would like to convert it to a DL-44 Blaster.

Who do I talk to about getting the necessary "Parts Kit" to covert it? I would need the Scope, Barrel parts and Greeblies.

Thanks.

Ahhh Ok. I didn't realize that. Yea I'm on the "Blaster Factory" sight right now.

I guess I will wait to buy parts ones the Mauser is here and I see what I need?

This is going to be a VERY Fun Build and a TOTAL SUPRISE for my 16 yr. old Grand Son for Christmas!

I have the necessary Machine Shop tools/Drill Press etc. to do all I need, so I'm really looking forward to this!

I JUST watched Adam Savage make the "Holster and Belt" assembly and I will be doing the same for my Grand Son.
I'm not sure if I will get that part done before Christmas? But I KNOW I will get the Blaster done! :)

Haha so cool man!! I know scottjua here on the RPF has some very very in depth videos on the pieces of the blaster and the screen accurate bluing, weathering, machining etc. You can check out his Youtube channel scottjua, or his Patreon Crucible Custom Props (it has tutorials!!)
