ANH & ESB Vader - almost done! updated 6.10.09 -glove pics post #177

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

ESB for me. It was the better movie for me and Vader was looking so much better. And the lights in the Chestbox made him "come to life". I´m not a hater, (Gino - because they suck...:rolleyes) but - I never liked the reddish eyes and the inner robe in ANH. But the position of the Helmet and the battle damaged look was okay. But the look of Vader never was as believable to me in ANH as in ESB. And I love the larger chin triangle of the ESB Mask. It looks better to me when it has the same dimensions than the mouth grill has.

ANH - all the way!

Looks much like he is still active and participating in battle.. The ESB is too clean and shiny for my part..

I am currently working on a ANH DV myself.. But unfortunately not in your league Mr. Gino - your work is awesome :love

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

Beautiful Vaders Gino. How long has it taken to get to this point?
Oh and my vote goes to ESB, simply because it's closer to ROTJ, my personal favorite.

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

Definitely ANH for me: more menacing, slightly raw, I like the smaller chin triangle and the darker grey on the armor. ESB is too shiny and perfect for my taste, ANH fits better in the all used-like universe of SW.

Gino, those are INCREDIBLE. (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

Thanks guys.

DAYMAN, glad to see another fellow ROTJ lover. :thumbsup

I really like hearing all your reasonings. Reminds me that we all love this stuff for the same reasons (for the most part).

ESB is getting whooped on.

ANH=13, ESB,=9

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

ESB. Vader is not held back in this movie, he is driven and has his own mind in it. His look is polished, arrogant and just commands respect. The fact he "promotes" a few officers in his quest is proof of his drive.

When Vader enters the Carbon chamber, his shadow is all that is needed, but the cold blink of his chestbox, the glow of the belt and the silhouette, Man. Classic.

But by far, the best Vader in all three movies is the Vader we see fight Luke on the catwalk. Vader is on the offense. Here is an old man, mostly machine, knowing that Luke is his son. Lays down the law. Never again do we really see Vader with that drive.

ANH is my second. It is a raw, weary look. ESB though is a rested, driven and powerful Vader.

How it should be.

Now to get my cape to lay like that...

I love how you guys are calling it "Battle damaged Vader". If not for this place, not many of us would know that the paint job on ANH Vader was crap.

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

That certainly is true.
I have to say though. The paint job on my ANH vader is total crap (on purpose) but when non prop people (but still SW fans) see my display in person, they never notice the crappy paint job unless I specifically point it out to them (which I love to do). It sort of just blends in with the overall look before I ruin it for them.

Honestly, I get more people commenting that they didn't realize his face was two tone painted than I do the sloppy brush painting.

Wow, I couldn´t say it better myself Runnriottt! Totally agree with you and second that. Nevertheless I do have an ANH Vader standing in my room since 1994. I will start a Thread about it when I have time for something like that. Here you can see some first impressions of my old ANH veteran Vader:

Before I start a Thread about this one and his evolution, I have to answer some Questions for JME3 in the Reveal section.(I didn´t forget you JME!!!)

I have to admit:
Although I love the ESB mask - the one and only Lord Darth Vader mask is and will always be the reveal Mask from ROTJ for me!!!:cool

Hey Jorg,
This is the second one of my showoff threads that you have rudely interjected with pics of your stuff. The other being the yoda.
I wouldn't do it to you, so I kindly ask you not do it to me and remove your pics.

Thanks.

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

LOL...I always started with showing non prop people my ANH...I'd say "check this out" and they'd look at it and say....."oh, nice" :confused then I would explain I sat around for weeks scuffing it up.

Doctors, Police officers, all manner of professional to the average Joe, you name it...the questions I always get are "Does the mask really change your voice?" and "does the sword really work?" almost like everyone turns back into a child around these props.

Growing up I loved the ROTJ Vader, but as I got older the ESB hero remains my favorite. After being bitten by the ANH bug and loving that costume I still love ESB best as it is the best of all worlds....from having actual ANH costume components to being a mix of clean and worn. Having said that from an artistic standpoint ANH is the most gratifying to put together as there is just such a wealth of detail.

Its sad to think about the current state of these props in the archives. Items tossed in a box, tour stuff with screen stuff and mismatched on every display. I'd love the chance to sort that mess out and would happily do it as a courtesy to fans.

Think about it George...a team of Vader experts, a week and some pizza....done! :angel

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

I would have to say ESB. I like the parade look of the armor and I started my viewing with ESB back in the day - always felt the RotJ was the pussy Vader.

Then I finally saw ANH... fierce, uncompromising, menacing, but couldn't beat the high shine of the ESB in my mind.

:lol:lol

Awesome. I always thought of him as the Adam West, just got done eating Thanksgiving dinner, need to unbutton his pants, too tired to chase after Luke version of Vader.

But I still love the ROTJ costume in and of itself. Just not the lazy feeling Prowse gave it by that film. I guess I'm saying it's not the costume's fault.

ANH=14, ESB=12

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

While ESB is my favorite movie, nothing can top the awe I felt as an eight year old seeing Vader for the first time on the big screen. Both displays are incredible but my vote goes for ANH.

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

I was only 5 when ANH was in theaters. My most vivid memories are of ESB and ROTJ so maybe that has subconsciously influenced my preference.

ANH=15, ESB=12

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

after reading all those other reasons to choose ESB, i partly have to say ESB too. (but my vote is still for ANH... :rolleyes )
some choosed ESB because of the overall appearance of vader and i completly concur with that.
my choice for anh is just because after all these years in this hobby i learned to esteem exspecially the imperfections. and ANH is the mother of imperfections, right??? i still go nervous whenever i get to know some "news" on sandtrooper stuff and be it ever so small.

if it comes for what vader costume PLUS vader appearance i would choose it would be ESB, for sure!

Re: ANH & ESB Vader - almost done!

Costume wise I think the ESB is easier to build. I am working on ANH at the moment and it is a far harder paint up.

Gino, your Vader's have always led the way. I must say I am a tad jelous of the gloves. Man, the ESB glove looks great. Personal diffrances aside, there is no debate on this... You have the most accurate gloves period at this time. Good Job.

There are so many things with the ANH that are just detail after nerve racking Detail. Becouse ESB is polished, it is much better for the normal painter. Everyone knows gloss. Try to explain "kinda glossy, like hairspray" to a painter for your dome project. Cross eyed looks are next in line I am sure.
ANH is great in his own right, but ESB is just the better overall Vader.
