This listing is for a suit jacket and trousers from the personal collection of Andy Serkis, which he wore to the premiere of The Return of the King in New Zealand, as well as his "botched" acceptance speech at the 2003 MTV Movie Awards. The suit is accompanied by a signed certification from Mr. Serkis.
This is a one-of-a-kind suit that was tailored for Mr. Serkis in Wellington, New Zealand. It was designed and sewn by Hank Cubitt, under his "House of Hank" label. Cubitt is a prominent New Zealand fashion designer, and he's been the Senior Costumier for the Royal New Zealand Ballet for over 15 years.
This suit was initially designed for Serkis when Gollum won the MTV Movie Award for "Best Virtual Performance" in early 2003. Serkis was notified of his win far in advance, because the acceptance speech was written with the input of Peter Jackson/Fran Walsh/Phillipa Boyens, and heavily animated with assistance from Weta Digital. In the speech, Serkis graciously accepts his award, only to have it stolen by Gollum, who proceeds to go on a tirade against the film industry. This sequence was added as a special feature to the Extended Edition DVD/Blu-Ray for The Two Towers, and it's also available on YouTube:
Serkis must have loved the suit, because he chose to wear it again for the World Premiere of The Return of the King that December in Wellington. I've included pictures of this as well.
Sometime after that, he donated the suit to Barnardo's, a UK charity helping impoverished children. He included a signed postcard, certifying the suit's authenticity. Barnardo's later auctioned this to raise money for their foundation, which is how I came to own it.
US Shipping is $20. International Shipping is $65. The winner will receive the exact item in the photos, so please refer to those for a closer look. Thank you for viewing this listing!
