Yes, as per the subject line, this is the next project I hope to be embarking on starting this month; I'm looking to have it done well in advance of the Blu-Ray releases in September. It's a timeframe I feel I can live with - no state of overt pressure or panic involved, which helps a great deal. :)

I settled on this version of his robot arm not only because it naturally goes along with my ROTS Anakin kit, but what's more it's always seemed to me the version easier to camouflage, e.g. in crafting the arm itself as part of a wearable glove, and particularly if that glove is black and close-fitting as possible. Certainly more so than with the AOTC exoskeletal arm - as delightfully shiny a creation as that is, true enough. Of course, it's probably also an advantage to have a slender forearm....

My plan for it is to not build the ROTS-related structure on top of the wearable AOTC robot arm, because I've already sussed that out as being too bulky. There are certain accent pieces, e.g. wiring or a washer/bolt here and there, and so forth, which I'm sure I'll take from the AOTC version and just pop 'em on there to add detail. I'm presuming that working with materials like sintra will be useful here, to keep it all as lightweight as possible; I've never worked with it before, but surely now's as good a time as any to start.

So far, locating an appropriate close-fitting, long-enough (yet not thin or flimsy) glove which will suffice has been causing me some exasperation....I'm leaning more towards something from Isotoner, quite possibly, but does anyone have any suggestions?

Oh, also, I have made note of that Vader Robotic Arm from Uncle Milton - thanks for the head's-up about it in that other thread! - and it will certainly be nice if I can use even some pieces of it as a kind of base, to graft off of it from there. I've also been eyeballin' the robot arm component from the 12-in. Sideshow Anakin, which fortunately has all the detail on the underside of the arm.... (though I know this prototype pic has it a bit backwards, but the point's still pretty much the same)

....and already I can see there are elements like that internal piston or driver right towards the centre, but my plan at present would be to approximate that with like a thin metal (or thin-molded plastic or sintra, whichever) cuff shaped and painted to match - just fit around the arm. Same as with the black outer structure of the arm, I was thinking, as well as the curved gold piece covering the internal workings.... Does it sound like I'm (hopefully!) on the right track here?

I'm of course very interested and eager for any suggestions/helpful hints or anything of the sort you all, with your wealth of expertise, no doubt have to offer; if there's any considerations I should be keeping in mind, anything you think I should try, please - I'd love to know, and it can only be of greatest help! I've successfully scratch-built those very complicated intertwining belts for my CW Ventress, along with wand and knife-scabbards for my Bellatrix, after all - but this project will be a whole 'nother first for me. :)

Having seen 127 hours last week-end shines a new light on this kind of things lol

*laughs* I haven't seen that one yet, but given what I've heard - I can well imagine....yoinks! :) 'Course, myself, just this past weekend in the course of a costumed troop I happened to mention to some fellow con-goers my plans for the mechanical arm....and you should've heard the fangirling, it was quite the wonderful surprise actually!....definitely only made me ever more gung-ho eager to finagle the starting of this one ASAP, true enough....LOL!
