Hey guys,
Well this is new! Ive Blogged and sold my work before but never been a part of a prop community before, be gentle haha.
My name is Henry South and I've worked in the film industry for about 7years, in the VFX sector. I was lead texture artist on Gravity and most recently worked on Guardians of the Galaxy and Hercules. I have been an active member of the miniture modeling community for about 10 years on and off until last year when I was approched to make something odd for an exhibition (Art vs Cancer).
I didn't want to do a painting or sculpture and I knew minitures wouldnt sell well in the fine arts community so I thought I would build a gun with a story behind it. Built and sculpted from toy store BB gun parts and various nuts bolts and screw, as well as casting and sculpting the main body of the gun I think I did a pretty good job. I dont have a huge WIP breakdown as I never thought It would be shared with anyone (wont be making that mistake again) The Idea was that the gun and various maps, diary entrys and oddities would be sold together to give a glimps into the world of "Katie" a young girl growing up during the zombie apocalypse. So the maps had safe zones around London and no-go sectors. All weathered and aged. It was a huge amount of fun and sold well. I've wanted to do another for ages now but have never had the time or energy. (It took flipping ages)
Here are a couple of snaps. The boxframe was handmade too. Took about as much time as the gun haha

Well since then I've always had the urge to do another one. A baby blue shotgun or something wacky but the base shapes have always put me off. The logistics of a realistic gun are immensely difficult. Until last week when a good friend of mine won a 3D printer and printed me out the base for one of the guns from Destiny! Well it was too good to refuse. I have big plans for this and hopefully I can put up my WIPs here. Starting with this one. So far I have made a paste from miliput and rubbed that over the chamber moving parts then sanded it down to a smooth finish that seems to be working well.
Lots of leather straps and a worn leather bound handle with feathers and beads is my plan so far. maybe a nice chipped metalic two tone car paint for the body. but Im probably getting ahead of myself. Back to the sand paper.
Thank you for having me,
Henry
