Hi all! I recently finished building up an AMT Ecto-1A kit and thought i'd share with you all some quick photos. I used the PGMS brass etched parts along with the standard kit to enhance certain areas. Enjoy :)

That looks really nice bro. Did you drill holes in the dishes "X"? Can barely see anything you did with the LED signs on the side. I did alot of work on this sucker too... I actually made the pack rack for the back along with a bunch of proton packs along with alot of other details... you can see my work here:

Master Modeling - Ghostbusters Ecto-1A - Part 1

I should bring the whole build over here! My site has gotten old.

Thanks! The brass parts kit includes a mesh "+" to install into the dish.

The LED sign board screens are also included in the brass set but unless lighting them up anything placed behind them cant really be seen. They slide right out though so I can always go back and light them later on but for now they are simply off :)

Love your build btw, I used it for research way back when making my very 1st 1A model! BIG inspiration!

WOW... Thanks... been awhile since I built her... I remember all the research I did on her (along with all the movie screen caps I did and then marked to show what I needed to add/change etc) I think next time I'm gonna actually make all those little decals for the various tanks etc. I dunno about the packs thou. I still have the originals and may actually just end up making a mold of them and seeing where I can go with those. You did a great job. I love the dish idea... althou when i was building mine, it appeared to me (in my research) that the "X" was actually clear tinted plastic... and I was thinking about how I would do that in my next kit. I was going to make a mold of the dish and then use hot glue to re-mold it. Then just paint the hot glue dish around the areas that aren't clear tinted. Would be clear and tinted enough to pass at this scale. I dunno... what do you think?

Hi

What a sweet looking build!! This is definately one of the best AMT ECTO-1 models I have seen so far. Great job dude!!!

Cheers,
Kevin

Back when I built mine all I had to go on was the movie and it really didn't give much detail on the dish at all. I barely even noticed it at all in the movie and the only time you actually see that it's clear is when it's leaving the garage in one scene of the GB2... Here's the ref screen capture I did that I spotted that it was transparent to begin with:

As you can see you can see thru it, but you can't make out that it's a mesh of any kind. I originally thou it was perhaps smoked clear plexiglass. But with the image you show, its definately a mesh. Where'd you get the brass etched pieces if I may ask?

Yeah some details are really hard to make out just from the movie alone. Thank god for the up close reference photos :)

I got the etched parts frm Ebay. Just serch for "ecto-1a photo etch".

You can also get the parts from Paul at Paragrafix. He has lots of other great stuff too, and the quality and service can't be beat.

No, I don't work for Paul - just a satisfied customer :)

Very cool... I've often thought about getting into Photoetching parts... May have to get that set if I build this again! :)

Now that's a sweet sweet build, Nick-A-Tron. Right now I am thinking about getting the Hot Wheels Elite1/18th scale Ecto-1A to go with the 1/18th Ecto-1, but for the price, it's not "Elite" enough with all those smaller details that turned out quite off. Seeing this, maybe an AMT kit will be the better choice...

very nice, working on mine right now. made the mistake of taking off the sign nubs to build the ecto-1, then i realized how off the rig would be compared to the actual ecto-1, trying to find a way to get those signs back on top now... think think then think then act, lesson learned.
