Alternate hand plates

Hi guys,

Some of you may have noticed that the ANH stormtrooper's have two kind of hand plates and today I made the other kind.I basically modified one of my sculpts and this is the first test pull.I'm not totally sure if they are the same shape as the regular 'T' back's but they'll do for now.I would like to see more HD pics of these before I do any changes, but I know they would look better made from silicone and stuck onto the rubber gloves like the originals.

Great work mate, looking forward to your silicone version.

Very nice Paul :thumbsup .

Not trying to hijack your thread with your new handplates but I have often wondered if the original handplates were vac formed plastic or a different type of material.

I have thought about this before and wondered if this was a feasible that the handplates could possibly have been already existing pieces like a large plastic or thick rubber tile with an upraised pattern. The tiles were then cut and painted with a template to get the shape.

Also if it isn't a already existing rubber or plastic tile cut could the different types of hand plate been formed as one to make numerous plates each time.

I have made up a quick (and pretty crap :$ ) tile made from 8 handplates 4 of each kind they link up pretty well. I used your pic with your hand plates to make the tile.

Just a stab in the dark at one way they might have been made.

Any thoughts? Note : I am prepared to be laughed at for this theory :) .

Cheers Chris.

Only kidding Chris.Anythings possible when it comes to props but I think that all the hand plates were specially made pieces. All the ANH hand plates are made from Vinyl according to John Mollo and certainly look like hard rubber in the pics and not vac formed plastic (ESB and ROTJ excluded).I see where your coming from though with your idea :)

These hand plates are made from .100 gloss white HIPS.
