All things Tron Legacy

Finally saw Legacy last weekend. Sorry, but I thought it was pretty bad. Nice eye candy, to be sure. But where was the story?? After all these years, that's the best they can come up with?

Try paying attention next time. Everyone else isn't here to spoonfeed you the story.

There's story, nothing epic by any means. The first Tron wasn't exactly Shakespeare.
I thought Flynn's digital "son" being scorned for the biological one something they could have explored more.

I think it served as a toehold for the long ignored Tron-verse in our post-Matrix movie landscape.

There was much that felt missing though, so perhaps the next time around.

I think the disconnect comes with generations of movie-goers raised on the perception that "intelligent" story is to be expounded on an noted specifically and literally in the dialog of the piece itself. While Legacy HINTS at the metaphorical or philosophical thematic underpinnings in its dialog, the true depth of its content is delivered visually and through the structurally balanced presentation of its story decisions and character arcs. It requires an interpretive participation to reap the full rewards of its narrative.

Which is interesting that those complaining about lack of story seem to be the first that allow the very presence of visual effects to be an excuse for not joining in that interpretive experience. A real bummer, man.

The other Tron 3 teaser has popped up on YouTube.

I have a feeling this is going to be epic.

Based on what I've read, the 3D BR, BR, and DVD all have the same extras. But there a set that gives you Tron on BR, which has bonus features not on the old DVD release. One review said that it was as good as Tron is ever going to look without changing things.

The next movie is going to be EPIC.

Dillinger the dad in the MCP type role (emporer type guy). And the son being the Sark.

I was hoping for some footage of the 2 actors though. :sleep

One of the best scenes was when Clu and his goons are at Flynn's place and he finds the silver apple. It then shows the flashback to his creation.

The whole point of the movie is about a father and his two sons. Both feel they have been abandoned to some degree, Sam by his father disappearing and Clu when Flynn became interested in the ISOs. Both rebelled, Sam pulls pranks on ENCOM and Clu took over the Grid. Basically Clu is a jealous child, but one who wants his creator to be proud of him. He just goes about it the wrong way, although he did it to the best of his abilities given the limits of his programming.

O.k.! Tomorrow it shall be released! My question is why do they push the whole 3-D thing? I mean its not going to be anything like the theater version. Has anyone had any success with the dvd wana-be 3-D? Just checking incase I missed something!

Uh, it's not that kind of 3D. DVD wana-be 3D has those green/purple glasses where as the 3D BluRay is just whatever 3D system your using. Preserves the color.

Oh, so the Bluray 3D is made for 3D monitors. Well that makes sense! I kinda figured the Dvd would have the colored lense glasses, I guess I just forgot we even have the 3D technology outside the theater! Hell I still don't even have a Bluray player yet! Plan on getting one, just so I can enjoy this movie....better!

You need a tv specific for 3D though. Not just any old LCD will play it.

Yea, I know, its just sad that I'm finally getting a Bluray player! The 3D monitors are a bit too much for me, and I think it would be cooler for them to figure out how to make them work without glasses. I guess they are working on a screen that does the work of the glasses. Either way I can wait for the price to go down. Who knows what they will come up with in the next ten years.

True true. 3D TV's over here are still pretty expensive. I'm not much into the 3D anyway. Blu Ray looks awesome so I'll stick with that.

where is everyone getting the best deal today, I know release day is usually the best day to get the big box stores to price match to a good deal.

Target has the Tron Legacy 2-disc (Bluray & DVD) set for $20, and the original Tron 2-disc (Bluray & DVD) set for $20, but if you buy both together you get $8 off.
Not too bad, we were looking at getting the full 5-disc set so we could get classic Tron but have zero interest in 3d or that ID disc case, so getting all the discs we wanted for $32 seems pretty good.

I went by Target near my workplace over lunch, and all the copies of the original Tron were sold out. :unsure I said something to an employee that came by to see if I needed help, hoping they might have more, but he said they sold out pretty quickly. I didn't feel like running around town to try and find them at other Targets and just burn gas, so I said "to hell with it" and got one of the ID disc case ones. Not having a 3D blu-ray or a 3D TV, maybe I'll sell that disc to someone that does if they want it.

Best Buy has them on BluRay for $24.99 each. I just used my gift cards that I had since my Bday so they were "free".

Anyone have the Best Buy deluxe set yet with the identity disc? I was searching looking for some good pics of it.

I got the 5-disc set in the regular packaging. Looks beautiful in Blu Ray. When I get finished with Legacy, I'm going to see how the original looks in HD.

If anyone collects Disney Movie Rewards points, hurry up as you only have a couple more hours. Today only, they are offering double points for any set that has TRON Legacy in it. I got the 3D 4-Disc set, entered my code and got 400 points rather than just 200. Remember, it's today only and only for TRON Legacy, so the DVD, Blu-Ray Combo, 3D 4-disc combo, and the 5-disc set.
