Six months, one Matsuo MG-42, a bunch of motorcycle parts, the crappiest vac-formed ammo drum imaginable, and a bunch of bolting, glueing and scratch-building later....

LET'S ROCK!

What paints did you use? Looks screen accurate all the way around.:thumbsup

Wasn't it you whom I bought an all wood smartgun from years ago?

Any plans to add a swing arm and attach it to a vest?

-Fred

The only way I'd try and mount this thing is on a real steadycam harness :lol

I have managed to pick up all of the found parts for the headset, that'll be another project to join the list...

I just used flat black auto paint and silver rub n buff.

The MG & flash hider are Matsuo casts. The struts and forward grips are the real deal Honda & Kawasaki parts as used in the movie.

The drum is a cheap vac-form that I intend to replace with a real one eventually.

Rear triggr is a universal 'shorty' motorcycle clutch lever.

Drum cover, IR sight and the rear firing assemly were scratch-built.

And yes, I was that Relics SG salesman :)

Wow.
That is great.
Nice work :thumbsup

I don't know much about the gun itself but my father is and always has been a biker. I never was into them myself but spending time in the garage with him when I was younger, I now realise that I must have taken more in than I thought.
I can clearly see all the motorcycle parts that have been used and I watched Aliens again only last week and never noticed how motorcycle based the Smart gun was.

I think I will show this to my Dad ,who I am sure will be interested in this for all the wrong reasons LOL

I was hoping my memory wasn't failing me.:lol I still have that wood smartie and I still love it.

This vac formed ammo can, may I ask where you got it? I might like to upgrade that part of my smartie. I once saw the real deal on sportsmansguide.com, but wouldn't you know I hesitated and by the time I went in for the kill....SOLD OUT!:cry

I actually think the Relics gun makes a good costume SG. It's light and sturdy. Waaay too expensive, though.

The drum came from here:http://home.comcast.net/~roja/Replica_Mg42.html

The drum comes with around 8 splits down the sides, which you are meant to patch up with pieces of flash they include, then fill with expanding foam. A lot of work to get anyway near presentable.

Hey just a question about the prop in the movie:
When the marine are told to disarm and use flames only inside the reactor, what is that part that Vasquez removes from the smart gun? It didn't look like a full ammo drum, more like some electronic gizmo.

It's the Smartgun battery. Vasquez & Drake hand them instead of ammo, but Vasquez has spares, and gives one to Drake, leading to the firefight in the lair.

Okay that makes sense. Always thought it was too small to be an ammo clip, but never knew what it was supposed to be exactly.

Slightly OT?
I always thought that was pretty stupid of Drake and Vasquez, I mean, they were disobeying a direct order. If they had made it back home, they would have been facing a possible court marshall.

Back on topic.
Dam:eek, what is with those splits in the raw ammo drum? Do they have problems with vac forming it?

I don't think they gave a crap abou that when the Xenos started coming out ofthe walls :lol

Vasquez clearly had utter disdain for her CO, and they seemed a pretty undisciplined bunch all round.
