I'm sure some of our PR experts will be chiming in here soon, but most recently the PR replica released by Hollywood Collectibles Group (HCG) was the first replica to be made with metal shrouds and sold for $899.00 but has sold out of the limited run, but I think they can still be found on Ebay.
There are a number of 'kits' out there, the best from what I have read were offered by Matsucorp.
There have been a variety of PR replicas available over the years - airsoft replica kits, resin kits and completed replicas. Some have accurate metal parts and digital counter and even some with sound FX.
If you do some digging around you will find a plethora of information regarding this prop.

Just looking for an alternative to the Hcg

You can find reasonably priced resin kits on ebay every so often and requires the typical sanding/painting skills associated with any garage kit.
If you finish it right, it will make a great display piece and if the casting is hollow, you have the option of adding lights/sounds.
That is pretty much the least expensive way to go. Not sure if Matsu will offer his kits again, but for the time being keep your eyes open for resin kits.

The only two truly "licensed" Pulse Rifle replicas have been the ICONS piece and now HCG.

Matsuo used to make PRs, but does not anymore. His could go for around $600 second hand. They have many metal parts (barrel vent, stock) and working triggers, pump action. If I had my choice I would go with one of Matt's rifles.

Spatcave probably makes the best static Pulse Rifle for your money ($200 I believe). Completely resin with no moving parts but does include a light up counter (does not count down though).

Resin garage kits from the 90s (or recasts of them) do pop up on ebay from time to time as has been mentioned.

Some are recasts of the ICONS rifle- the casts vary from very clean/crisp to crummy with soft details and lots of bubbles.

Comet Minatures makes a resin/white metal kit (this is also known as the Terren Trader kit). It is fiddly to put together but makes an okay display piece once assembled.

Monsters In Motion used to make one of the most intricate resin kits- highly detailed. But these are rare to find at best.

Whatever you do- stay away from the old Star Arms kit. Resin with (thin as paper) plastic vacu-formed parts. Total garbage. Too much work to put together, and would be something that could only be displayed (much too fragile to hold and "play with"). I owned one once. Never did put it together (although I tried twice in a span of ten years). Finally unloaded it on ebay for $100.

As for the kits you might find on ebay- I wouldn't spend more than $150 on them. Otherwise Spatcave is your best value for your money.

The hardcore PR fans don't love the airsoft version but I do. It is rock solid, lots of metal parts, working counter, shoots BBs, working stock, etc.

That pulse is killer!
I figured the brown upper piece that is what you call the shroud ?
that is supposed to touch the shotgun barrel or close right?
Many of the Hcg rifles have the large space between
from the defects i have been reading . Is that from the top Barrel
pushing it down or where they just not secured right?

Have you not read the gazillion page HCG pulse rifle thread???

if you look real close, you'll see one in the following pic. ;)

This may repeat what's already been said but it'll put it all in one post.

HCG Pulse Rifle - $900 - metal & resin parts, with working counter

G&P Airsoft Pulse Rifle - $700 (was one for sale at D*C, let me now if you need a name) - airsoft thompson with Pulse Rifle 'conversion kit', working counter, working stock etc. These conversion kits appear to be getting harder to find though.

Icons Pulse Rifle - $400 (varies on eBay) - static licensed resin model

Spulse - $200 - solid resin model with hollow parts to add a working counter

Misc Resin Kits - $100-$300 on eBay - most are recasts of Icons, cheap and need work but are great for costuming the same as the Spulse.

Not forgetting that the G&P kit that fits around the Thompson is mainly plastic, with only a few parts metal (top of the stock, barrel vent, etc.) :)

Also, the stock locking mechanism often fails, so can't be relied upon.

If you wanted the Best.... You couldnt do much better than a steel hero model with an HCG shroud.

Using an airsoft Thompson would save you some cash. Mixing and matching GL parts like real or resin shotguns or real or resin spas cages can swing the prices around drastically.

Heres an all metal version I did using resin shrouds.

I'll do an HGC metal shroud version in due time trust me.

WOW THATS NICE! How would your BEST compare to a SD seeing those sold for like what 7k I think? seeing its all metal and uses real weapon parts.
I have read the SD was the best replica ever made. I really have no
idea seeing i have only had a icons stunt and a defective HCG . I always stayed clear of airsoft because they always had that toy plastic look. But when a Professional like you swaps out parts it really shows .

Definitely awesome Matt.

Kinda looks familiar, although the one you built for me is a 10 hole.

G&P kit is kinda the base version.

Next would be a full airsoft type (Thompson and 870), with parts from SD Studios, Matsuo, Phil S, DATA or a combination thereof, according to your preferences.

Above that, a full custom version from the likes of Matsuo there.

Only one above that would be made with real weapons.

IMO, expect to spend at least 2 grand for anything really worth it, but know it will be worth every penny!!

As Ttaskmaster says, expect at least 2k for anything really good if your going the self build route.

I based mine off the G&P kit but ended up that the only thing I used was the shrouds, the rest are all upgrades. The good thing about building it yourself is you can take your time to source the parts and spread the cost, or just get the HCG one..for 900 its a pretty damn good price

When you guys say build it yourself how difficult is that
process? do you need special tools for the task ? and good prop building
skill the reason why I ask is i have none .
