Found this back in our warehouse earlier this week:

Already started to modify it:

Fill in a few more holes, and should have something workable.

Making some progress after plugging 80+ holes with 3d printed plugs:

The pallet is pretty scratched up from all the years of use, so need to clean it up.

After that, patch the center holes (red), and remove the center ridge (yellow).

I plan to make all the holes rectangles, so it would be easier to have less holes to modify.

:D You are my hero !!! :thumbsup

After reading through all these posts I think there is only one corse of action. Lobby for a law to be passed in which no effects shop is allowed to make anything cool unless it is possible and cheap to get hold of the parts yourself. They could even go further and make them list shot by shot each piece and catalogue number. It could be called the greebly law.:)

Fantastic work on this project so far.

Not to derail anything, does anyone have any info on the obscure "alternate" floor tile that some claim to be authentic? I'm talking about this:

(Image borrowed from the alienlegacy forum.)

I know it's been brought up from time to time (though not on the RPF from what I can tell) and the legitimacy of it has been questioned, but I can't seem to find any definitive answers on it. It looks similar to the smaller Sulaco tile, but is lacking in a few distinct details such as the rings.

I was given one of these in trade a few years ago and it was accompanied by a certificate from a UK prop house and have always been curious about it. (The palce was called Hollywood something-or-other... can't remember exactly but they did have a website that seemed legit. I'll try to dig it up.)

The one I got is sprayed silver and had obviously been used for the floor of SOMETHING because it is full of grime. If it is indeed for real, it could have been used in parts of the Sulaco or colony that weren't really shown onscreen that much since we can conclude that the sets were extensive enough that they wouldn't show off every nook... and certainly not on-screen. Maybe it was used in background or outlying areas, or somewhere else? I've had it in storage since I got it... was planning on framing it if I could get to the bottom of its provenance.

It may be real , not sure , I am definitely thinking the Sulaco floor tile standard look !!!...I may be wrong, but that's my opinion.....LOL....if it is screen used, then you are sitting on a awesome piece of history sir

So, I just got a fast reply from Mr Page, the owner:

"The Tiles came to us from a stock clearance at Elstree Studios. We believe they were used on the floor of Ripleys shuttle at the start of the film, though most sellers at the time were listing them as Sulaco Floor Tiles, which we believe is incorrect."

That kinda makes sense. There's no certainty that they used the larger tiles everywhere. He attached a couple stills from inside the Narcissus that look like they might be correct, but the dry ice smoke covering the floor makes it hard to tell. When I get home I'll take a look at the bluray and see if I can find anything.

I think I caught a glimpse of a similar pallet being sold near where I live. It's from a store that supplies different pallets from wood to different plastic (is it plastic?) designs. Who knows? I may find what you guys are looking for over there. I pass by the shop everyday going to and from the office.

Either way, that's good for you , especially if it came from the Narcissus especially....because that shuttle is rarer than anything else IMO....that's gold !!!
