Aliens Dropship Helmet - Nearly Completed

Well after a LONG time, I've nearly come to the end of my Dropship helmet build.

There are a few things left to replace, including a longer mic boom, the mic boom connection, and a few nuts. I also need to spray the inside of the ears black...when i can be bothered to take the suspension liner out again! its not an easy job.

I decided to get as close to the original prop as possible, and have added all the weathering...even if alot of this weathering might have been done after filming, over the years.

The right ear (looking at it) is a resin cast, from a kit. The left is is completely made from scratch using the correct parts...polaroid, model parts, etc etc

Thanks to everyone on the Alien Legacy Forum who had an input, and thanks to the prop owner Gio, who supplied some great photos!

Hope you all like it as much as i do.

Lewis

Always wanted one of these. Congrats on your build. It looks fantastic. How about adding a shot of Ferro in the cockpit of the dropship for comparison.

Very cool ready for the elevator ride to hell. Going down! Love this helmet, one of these days I will have to do some Aliens armor.

It looks to be in the pipe, five-by-five.
I still don't know what that means!
"In the pipe" = in the correct parameters to enter atmosphere without burning up and will arrive on target (in the movie there's a display with purple rectangles showing the calculated flight path, hence "pipe").

"Five-by-five" = is an old signal strength check used by radio operators, it was a measure of signal strength and quality both rated on a scale of 1 - 5 with 1 being the weakest / poorest and 5 being the strongest / clearest. In theory you could wind up with a signal that was weak but clear 1x5 or strong but garbled 5x1 or any combination in between. In essence she's reconfirming that she's in really good shape for her entry.

Thanks guys the comments are very nice.

Thanks DBoz for selling me the SPH-4 helmet!

Almar, there is a whole thread on the parts used on the helmet, on the Alien Legacy Forum, its a great reference site so take a look.

If you need any help i'll help in anyway i can, so just ask.

Here are some compare photos with the original prop. Mine isnt perfect but im happy enough with it. The one thing I'm not 100% with is my 'Fly the Friendly' text which is a little too big. Think also the helmet still needs dirtying up more.

Mine is on the right!

That's that cleared up then!

I love this helmet! You've done a superb job :cool

I hope you have the sunglasses to go with it!

Looks great LDR!

I got my glasses on ebay.

Now, I have some upgrades to do on my helmet.

Is your mic cable too short to into the rubber grommet?

Hi matt,
Thanks for the comments.

No the cable is long enough, but i am waiting for the long boom arm to arrive. I will then cut off the double pin connector, and stick the cable through the rubber gromet, and tie a knot in it.

yeah thanks Franz.

Theres two types of front part you can get, a short and long. On the screen used it looks like the long version. MIne has the short.

Was that really your first post here? :lol:thumbsup
Welcome to the RPF!

@ LDR
Great looking helmet! Besides the size especially the writing looks spot on IMHO!
