Alien Nostromo Flashlights

The back cone and light housing look like found parts to me, but the handles for both the portable and set-mounted versions look like custom jobs to me. Maybe made and vac-formed from individual cobbled elements originally, but how they look to mount to the light piece seems to be a custom build.

I will say that I spent a lot of time trying to locate a similar flashlight to no avail. Nothing even close.

I feel confident that it's a found part, or a compilation of a couple of found parts. Maybe not originally red, but nonetheless, not fabricated from scratch.

These are the best reference pictures I was able to find. Any ideas? This is one I've ALWAYS wanted. I thought about fabricating it. It's not THAT difficult a build. It'd be better 3d printed tho...

Now that I look closer, I think that the front part is actually the rear part of a car headlight mounting system. The part behind the grille. The tabs visible on that front part look to me like the adjustable part of a headlight system.
Savage I think your on to something. the tabs do looking adjustment screws from an old 60s or 70s car. the rea looks like a sieve or maybe a fan housing. Roger Christian mentioned using car parts in his book.

Here was the one used in Romulas

I was working of some kind of "secret project", when I remembered to check on my favourite forum for references.... and... of course there is! And a lot ! Love you guys ! My turn to share !

So, now that I have cross checked my references and yours, here is 2 major differences that I have spotted between the 1979 movie and the last opus, "Romulus" :

Compare 1.jpg

1/ Intersection between the main frame and the "legs" :

1979 :

a lond fillet.

2024 :

no fillet... and some kind of knob.

2/ And of course, the color !

Orange in 1979

Yellow in 2024

And now a glimpse of my "secret project" :D:

I think that the front bottom part is not as defined as your design...but more like something looking like a knuckle;)

I may work on both model (1979 and 2024), but for know I'll just focus on the Romulus one, aka "the Yellow" :D.

What type of Switch is it, in your opinion ?
Looks like this one :

Should I stick with the old school "halogene bulb" on both ?

1979 :

They make modern compatible ones (LED COB R7S) :

The 78mm one would fit perfectly. But they work on 110/220V ...

Current "secret project" status :

And what do you see here ?

Personally, I prefer the slightly conical lamp shroud of the original, than the cylindrical shape of the Romulus version.

Consider the placement of the batteries please
I am ;)

The cylindrical one is also in the 1979 Alien.
Just with minor differences.
But I may work on the "conical" one in ethe future.
The switch seems to be the correct one

Regarding the bulb, I put a fake original size bulb in my EVA helmet flashlight and illuminated it from behind with a powerful LED
Yeas but I can find any size in the specs + it works for 110-220V and are not cheap.
I'll start with a fake one.

As this image shows, I think I'll stand with a white, or "frosted glass" screen bolted to the front part (and a source of light hidden behind).

And to all :
Do you see a groove here in the back part of the handle, or not ?

Seems like it's on the side of the handle, nothing on top(y)

Proptotype complete !

I cutted a 2mm Acrylic sheet, then I sanded it to get the frosted effect.
Bolted with real M4 screws.

I made my prototype quick and dirty with a simple frontal lamp taped in.

I used a fake 3d printed switch, and obviously didn't use the hidden "leg" compartiment for batteries...

But I made room for those who will put real electronics and batteries in !

Lighted up !

As you said post processing will add that groove on each side of the handle?:cool:(y)(y)
I didn't look into that, cause I haven't enough reference material at the moment.
Maybe I'll work on a V2, when the real prop will be shown properly.
