Half my basement is Aliens themed. It is my prop room, work area and storage. I would like to turn a corner of it into the beginning of an Alien Hive.
    Nothing complex, expensive or permanent.

I thought about using chicken wire over a wood frame and then paper mache. (strips of newspaper soaked in water and white glue).

Does anyone have any other ideas? It seems like taking wet newspaper and attaching them to wire upside down would be messy and difficult.

Are there any set construction people that have made rock walls or similar?

I think carved foam covered in polyurethane hard coat would be easy... You could carve and sculpt the foam into the shape you want and then have it hard coated with even rhino liner to make it pretty much impervious to damage and age an then just paint it...

This is what I would do aswell, like the way I used foam for making Bob.
I've been thinking about making a large wall hanging of a bit of Hive with Bob set into it, 8'x4' sort of size made of foam.
